Hi!
Went for a spin yesterday.
We`ve had an much colder than normal winter in Sweden this year but spring is on its way now.
It was a sunny day but winds from the north made it quite cold.
Found some snow when I stopped to stretch my legs.
First ride this year! 013

Heated grips and lots of warm clothes was needed.
There is still a lot of gravel on the tarmac so you`ve got to ride with care.
Cheers,Wikur!

Tack själv för den god historia!

Here in Australia you wouldn't have any worries about putting the bike away for any length of time. But I am in sympathy for you about the first ride of Spring. Having myself lived in places where the bike sits for a few months, when you can finally throw up the garage door and roll it out under the sun the feeling is, well, it's marvelous!

Nice bike too!

Wirkur,
We also have had a cold winter and now free of snow, I am looking forward to many tours now that spring has come. I have had quite a few pleasant rides already. Have fun...nice bike.

Speaking of all things cold...what do people use to stop the visor fogging?

I never have that problem Blakey, I have open faced ones, feel encased in a full one. However there is a spray you can get for anti misting.

Blakey,
depending on which helmet brand you use, there's a variety of flexible inserts that attach to the inside of your full-face helmet visor. Some are a thick film that stick to the visor and are called 'Fogcity', etc., RJays are selling one for their brand of helmet. Others attach to small plastic pins and are known as 'Pinlock'. Nolan started it, now Shoei, HJC, Scorpion and I've read that Arai soon will have them available too. Others brands use this method, and you'll have to purchase a new visor (with the requisite holes) to use them.

I have both types for my Shoei X11 and a Pinlock for my HJC Carbon. They work! In heavy rain, mist or fog I can leave the visor shut tightly, even while stopped, and my breathe doesn't 'steam' up the inside of the visor.

Here's a coupla links:
http://www.pinlock.com/index2.htm

http://www.fogcity.com.au/

http://www.scootersales.com.au/News-1505-rjays-anti-fog-insert.aspx

The Fogcity link doesn't give much info but at least you know they're out there.

There's a smear paste product that is, well, crap, and it's known as Cat Crap. It is just that in that it doesn't work as advertised.

All of these products are clear, relatively unobtrusive in your field of vision, and legal, but I prefer the removable Pinlock type over the films.

Keep in mind that some helmet manufacturers claim that their visors are coated on the inside. Schubert (original and perhaps still the makers of BMW's helmets) peel off very easily when the liquid, spray or paste anti-fog agents are used. Another reason to stay away from these half-methods.

Thanks guys. I didn't know about the replacement visors and I have used all sorts of sprays to defeat the fog.
I'll definately check them out.

I use a Schuberth C2 with the original anti-fog visor.
Works great as long as you don`t use anything but water to clean it.
Schuberth are expensive helmets.I got mine cheap at a discount price when the C3 model was released.
The C2 was a better fit for me.
The built in sun visor is great.
Cheers,Wikur!

Working at a BMW shop you get all manner of odd things happening and you see patterns developing. There really are a lot of loose nuts between the seat and the 'bars, and that's just the blokes in the workshop! We'd sold a regular, and particularly well-manicured, customer a 2nd generation Schuberth C2 which he enjoyed very much. He always had a scent on him. After a month or so he brought it back complaining of the interior film peeling off the clear visor in small pieces. We warranted the 'defective' visor and sent him on his way with a caution not to use any abrasives, chemical cleaners or anti-fog compounds on the visor. He swore to us he hadn't. The warranty claim was paid, with no worries. After another month he was back with the same problem. In conversation with BMW's rep and the helmet manufacturer's rep at a trade show we were told that there was a chemical reaction occurring with the film. In the end it was determined that the potency and amount of the cologne he was using each morning before donning his favourite helmet was likely the culprit causing the anti-fog coating to peel away from the visor. He stopped using the aftershave and his visor kept its anti-fog properties for a long time afterwards. Coincidence?

Great story Two Weels Better!
I´ll remember to not use aftershave before riding.
Guess drinking whisky while wearing the C2 is also out of the question.
Don`t drink and drive! It`s not only illegal but it will probably ruin your anti fog aswell!
Cheers,Wikur!

And to think all these years I've thought that the purpose of the flip-up design was so a rider could have a smoko and a sip! First ride this year! Icon_clown
