This is my 86 Kay. It came with the three spoke wheels, I think they are off a R1100. The after market exhaust was also on the bike when I got her, it has a really sweet note and adds more of a sporty look. (I think)

Pics of my K100 rear end tidying efforts so far P1040614

I removed the pannier brackets this weekend. I almost never use the panniers and if I plan on a road trip, it will only take half an hour to put them back. Is the gap between the duck tail and the side panel normal? It looks a bit big to me.

Pics of my K100 rear end tidying efforts so far P1040613

She came with an aftermarket shock, it has an adjusting knurled knob on it, damper adjustment? I have not played with it yet.

Pics of my K100 rear end tidying efforts so far P1040615

I cut down the rear mudguard for a sleeker look and removed the luggage rack.

looks as though you have benefited from the po's past mods

looks good to me

huge gap between exhaust and left side of bike and a collector system in place ...would like to see a better close up of that ...if its possible

the gaps on the side covers look about right to me for 85-86

Yeah looks good. The wheels are from a late model K75s, 91-96. The r1100 had 17" front and 18" rear. The front is definately from the K75s as it has the standard bolt pattern for K100 discs and the single spot calipers, the rear could be K1100 LT rear.

Hi Charlie

The gap is really just the angle I took the pic from although I have noticed that I may have widened it by about 10mm by removing the pannier rail. The gap is 90mm from the wheel centre, 45mm from the tyre. I have taken some closer pics.

Health to ride.
Removing the pannier rails really cleans up the back end of the bike. As does removing the luggage rack.

They're a bit better. All 75s had the 'S' forks and they fit in the K100 clamps. Probably more importantly, they have the integral brace so they are don't suffer the seal-popping twisting under heavy braking of the un-braced K100 forks.

The K100RS SE was fitted with them and so too were later "authority" spec K100RTs.

Depends.
Did you wake anyone else with your sleeplessness?
Did you have a spacer lying round the would 'do the job'?
Did you make a spacer to fit to 'do the job'?
Did you travel to buy a spacer to 'do the job'?
Did you get up at any time during the night because you remember seeing a piece that 'might do' to 'do the job'?
Did you google how big the spacer should be to 'do the job'?
Once you had fitted the space to 'do the job' did you rush to the computer, download said photo and post it here so we could all comment in as short a time as possible so you may be able to sleep tonight knowing you have 'done the job'?

Answer yes to any of the questions and the answer is J pox. Not quite K pox, but damn close.
Yes to two questions, ask for Clymer and a 10mm socket cause you are going to need them.
Then catch up on your sleep. You look like a wreck.

Not all the K75 had the s fork the early K75 had 41.3mm and later had 41.0mm and the later RT had the 41.3 also there is a bit of a mix there, be careful

Hijack!

Now that we are on the K75 forks, is there much difference in ride and power between the K100 and K75.

Now to keep it on track, the spacer looks slightly off centered. LOL!

From 0 to 160 kph there is little difference but after that the K100 just keeps pulling.
You also have to be a bit more vigilant and keep the revs up a bit more on the K75, when they reach 5000rpm they really get up and go where the K100 has good torque from much lower.

Inspired by your photos, I've just removed the pannier rails and luggage rack. Blanked the holes on the seat hump.
Back end looks a lot less fussy.
Seems to be two schools of thought developing in the forum. One is taking bits off and the other is adding bits on.
And we all believe we are improving the breed in our own way.

Those are early Fichtel Sachs K100 fork legs and a very early K100 front fender, model year '83-'85. There is no cast fork bridge as one found on '88 and later Ks.

Contry to what is being touted as sleep deprivation I would say K pox is the product used prior to springing in the slumber department, so it's quite possible that sleep will give you a geater opportunity to conjure up a newer vision of your bike, to quote a movie the castle he's an Idea's man he is (once absorbed by the Kpox) that is. And all that conjuring is also from the Castle as they say tell him he's dreaming. Seems to me K Pox is good for you.

Bigsax - That's a good-looking bike...

I had similar thoughts about my LT, so I took off the top box and rack, then I slimmed the seat down.

I can't take the panniers off, I use them too much.

Currently I'm looking at making a panel to cover the area between fairing/side panel/sub-frame support strut or perhaps right up to the panniers but after messing around with sheets of cardboard I can't find a way to make it work.

Good luck with that Gerry. You could try getting a sheet of plaster, like the ones used to make casts for broken limbs. Cover the bike in plastic and try moulding it where you want it.

Funny, here in Australia we are stripping off panels to cool the bike down!

I lowered the rear end by finding a rear shock absorber that is 30mm shorter than standard and installed it.

It has a firmer and tighter feel about it. I love the lower look.

I also dropped the front triple clamp by 15mm.

The bike handles great, fantastic through the twisties. it is a little hard on the rear end over bumps and I have removed the center stand as it is now impossible to use.

A bit like Ohlins coloured springs, eh?!

I left my Motobatt as yellow as it comes and it gets to me every time I walk back towards the bright red bike. Now it's in a shed near Brissy not bothering me for nine more months...

I have dropped the rear end by fitting a shock absorber 35mm shorter. It has less travel obviously and makes the ride much firmer.

I have tried adjusting the handlebars by dropping them accordingly but found that the best riding position for me is with them at the highest point on the forks.

I have mostly just removed things pegs, z bars, lower fairings etc and have really only added a Laminar lip and changed the rear indicators.

I love the look of this bike and have tried to make any changes look as factory as possible

Nice work on the bike.

Just bought meself a set of those indicators also.

I like the idea they sit pretty flush and have the added advantage of being seen from the side and rear. And not LED.
