just some news

gerty is making some orrible noises

at just off throttle and before backing off whilst travelling ,,,there is some noises coming from what sounds like the alternator area ....monkey nuts perhaps ?

but with further experimentation  throttle on - off ....and recent clutch issues (where the clutch plate doesn't seem to disengage  whilst backing off ....and a huge backlash effect whilst transitioning from throttle on to throttle off  )

I think I will have to investigate this further ....im thinking at the moment, that I have a failing output shaft ...rattling with the near synchronous speed and engine revs

of corse the blooming gearbox bearings could also be the issue, as gear changes seem solid ...but difficult on decleration  ...but need to take a look before heading south ....verry soon .

cross your finger blokes ....have had too many issues just recently

hoping to make it but ....

I wont be taking the newly naked RT which I'm enjoying immensely for much the same reasons, I think the mains are packing it in.  A good rattle on startup until the oil pressure takes up, and its getting worse the more I ride it.  Ah the joys of classic motorcycling.

A ride through the Northern Tablelands 2015 - Page 2 3858c

On the gearbox bearing front, my only ever experience (rear output) I felt it through the pegs long before it became noisy.

yes rattle is possibly the output shaft al

having a brainstorm on the way home ....could be the input shaft to gearbox rather than the other ...as there is little rattling at start ...thinking the clutch plate is holding centre kinda ...but the input bearing could be the issue ? as this would explain the binding clutch on release ??

lets see what happens tomorrow

Ah, shiny metal bits in the oil as well Charlie, all the signs are saying main bearings, it's not the output shaft knock.  I'll just ride it for the moment.  I've another motor to slip into it anyway which I know is OK so i'm not too worried about it dropping its bundle.

Bike back together.
What a marathon effort that is.
At least 8 hours solid today and I already had the new clutch in and torqued correctly with my new torque wrench.
Exhaust welded. Fingers crossed it holds.

Maybe a test run tomorrow.

Looks like I'll be able to make it. Heading off sometime Friday morning to arrive at smithy's late arvo. Will probably head out to Tenterfield and down the New England Hway if anyone from the North wants to meet up for the trip.
I'll be travelling on to Newcastle on Sunday.

do you have an estimated time through Casino Nigel ...?

I figure 2 and a bit hours from here if I throttle up and get going (dry weather permitting )

if not... perhaps an estimated arrive time at Tenterfield ?

seems Tackler is busy for that weekend and cannot make it
and haven't heard from others able to make it... yet

seems marky boy got the weekends confused

ETA Guyra by 5pm?.... so maybe 2ish departure from Casino at the latest.
You've got further to travel charlie so you tell me where and when. If Tenterfield is better, maybe 3ish.... or sooner if we need to get to Guyra earlier.
Will be travelling with werewasi

Guessing we'll need to pick up snags 'n steaks along the way.

We've got a 5:00am start tomorrow morning to get out to Heathrow airport in London for our homeward flight.

Just out of curiosity I just checked the weather report for home for Friday through Sunday - wow, 40 deg C for Greta for Friday.

Looks like you've got another hot one coming up Smithy.

Best of luck to you all for a good weekend.

Rickmeister, I'll be looking forward to catching up to see how your adventure goes.

Cheers

Heatwave coming from Wed on. The ride up on Friday is looking particularly hot "Unseasonably hot with blazing sunshine" is the quote from one site 39-41C along the route.  I might have to pull the pin Smithy, my scottish breeding really doesn't enjoy that sort of weather.  I'll keep an eye on the forecasts just the same.

I'm a mid week scratching as well - need to attend to a matter on the home front - hope to catch up with those outside Sydney at the KRR in Feb 16 -  re the hot weather - Bill had it nailed last year with one of those Camel Back hydration gizmo's.

In prep for this years run I picked up a generic version from KMart for $12 .....

Not sure my hydration pack was a very expensive one, but it certainly did the job. Now if I could find one with a light refrigeration unit built in . . .

Sorry you can't make it, Warren. Next February in the Snowy?

Hi Smithy,
Can you clarify directions-
Thinking of going down Tubbumurra rd, 44 kms past Glen Innes.
Looks like 12kms down this to Wards mistake rd. Some of it seems to be dirt.
Do i turn left at this point and go to where?

I will be leaving earlier on the Friday morning than others because I have no fan

I just checked the weather report, and it will be hot again. Guyra can expect 30 on Friday and 31 on Saturday, it's hard to believe that the last few nights it's been in the single digits with day time temps of only 21!.
I can relate to those that will find it to hot to make the journey, if it's going to be that hot on Saturday the Dorrigo loop ride will be much more pleasant, and put us back in Guyra early for more refreshments.

David, I'll be traveling fairly slow due to a decent load on board and the expected high temps on Friday. Normally a 4hr trip from Lismore but will be taking about 5or 6. Better to travel in a group. Meeting up with Charlie at Casino.

Re directions....
Less than a K after you turn left onto Wards Mistake Rd judging from the map.

There is around 5 km of dirt but it's not bad then left at Wards Mistake Rd and smithys is about 200mtrs on left. It is the first place on the left or anywhere.
I should be getting there round 5.00 but going to Coffs first.

question

are we intending to group together for a few beers with the lads staying at the pub on the Friday night or Saturday night ?

or perhaps at smithys   and let the rabble find their own way home to their accommodation at night

just a thought

see you all sometime tomorrow  some where along the path

nigel ....southside casino petrol station (before the bridge, right hand side , shell from memory)  at around 12 ish ?

just a reminder about the aussie contacts list for those that have not emailed me yet

youll find the thread here

https://www.k100-forum.com/t4984-contact-list-for-the-aussies-kiwis-and-oceania

not a must do thing ...but if we get separated at all along the path, would be good to be able to make contact with someone.

travel safe guys

You're right. The lower humidity in the highlands will make  it more bearable but I don't think there's a great deal of wind chill happening when the temps get up around body temp.
The thing to watch is dehydration.... It can creep up on you.

are we intending to group together for a few beers with the lads staying at the pub on the Friday night or Saturday night ?

or perhaps at smithys   and let the rabble find their own way home to their accommodation at night

just a thought

I have contacted Sean and he will be coming out for the BBQ, and as far as I know there isn't anyone staying at the pubs in town. All will be camping at Riverdale.
Kay and myself are looking forward to another great weekend with the Krew, ride safe all and we will have a cold beer here on your arrival.

Well, the Tablelands ride is done and dusted  for another year, and with the weather not as hot as expected we decided lunch at the Surf Club in Coffs Harbour was the ride destination.
We left Riverdale at 8.00am to meet Sean and his Hillbillies  at the Guyra Caltex roadhouse and after fuelling the bikes, headed to Dorrigo for coffee at the worlds smallest motorcycle museum. Then it was on to Griffiths lookout in Dorrigo for photos of the bikes with a stunning backdrop. Hmmm seems there wasn't much of a view with all the haze.
Leaving the lookout we continued down the Waterfall Way into Coffs Harbour and enjoyed a great meal at the Surf Cub with ocean views over Park beach.
It was decided that we needed more photos, this time at the Big Fat banana in Coffs Harbour. Damn no parking in front of the Banana, it seems none of us knew what that meant, so photos were taken anyway.
We then travelled back to Guyra via the Orara East state forest and on through Nana Glen, then up the range via the Nymboida Ebor road. Arriving back at Riverdale at about 6.30pm,and to our surprise finding a still slightly jet lagged Gaz80 had made the journey up, good onya Gaz.
We then settled into a few more refreshments while cooking the BBQ and listened to Garry's travel story's  of his recent trip to Ireland and UK.
It was a great weekend had by the Krew, even when the misty rain and low cloud forced the proceedings into the K Kave to continue our banter and rehydrate.
Pics to follow

just home now smithy

low cloud lifted nicely the other side of Ben Lomond

hope the southbound Krew got similar relief

beautiful riding weather along the path till about Warwick when the sun appeared almost full view ...then the heat came back as a reminder to just a day or so ago ....the descent into the Brisbane valley brought unwelcome humidity  and at home was 27c ...not too bad but a  stark contrast to last nights celebration of yet another fantastic event held by the Smithy's

was absolutely great to catch up with so many of the east coast members ...and sadly we missed many because of circumstances outside their control ..maybe we will bump into each other on the next k bike events

thanks again for hosting the event and  to Kay , Warren for the fantastic support ...many thanks indeed

Home about an hour ago after a good ride down to Newcastle with Nigel. No dramas this time with the fuel supply disrupting. A great weekend tableland ride. The biggest surprise was seeing Gaz there after his travels. It was great to catch up with the K Krew and the drizzly rain did not dampen spirits. A big thank you to Smithy and Kay for their wonderful hospitality. Cheers Tom

Got home at about 14:30. The Yellow Peril developed a weird front end wobble. When coasting down a hill at say 60Km/h, and I take both hands of the handle bar, the whole front end shakes violently from side to side. Checked tyre pressures when I got home...all OK. There is no "slop" at all in the swing-arm or the front head-stock bearings. Nothing obvious leapt out on initial inspection. Tyres fairly well worn. Will replace them and get a proper wheel balance done, before delving further. Curious if anyone out there in K-Land has experienced this. It's quite scary!!

Anyway, I would also like to again thank Smithy and Kay for their v.kind hospitality. It certainly was a great weekend.

Cheers, Rickmeister.

Hello Ulli
Mine shakes it's head too, my front wheel has a slight buckle and is OK until the tyre wears down and starts to wear out of round then the wobble starts.
