Good morning folks, Chuck McCoy, Dallas Texas here.  New guy.  Don't own a Kbike, have a ?1984? K100 in my garage that has not been started for about 10 years.  At least it was inside my friend's garage all those years.  His father gave it to him, in non-running condition.  All we know is that the fuel pump was bad upon delivery.  Dad didn't mention any other problems, and thinks that was all that was wrong.

I may end-up owning this bike, I'm a highway guy and am certain it would go down the road well.  Currently using a Suzuki VS800 which really works great for me.  I'm old & out of shape & don't get to ride enough.  But easily do 400 miles a day without getting too sore.  Planning a 600 mile day soon - I need to go to Nebraska.  Never been there.

I also get to play with cars, run endurance races with DirtCheapRacing.  We've run WRL, Chump & nasa in the last year.  Still pretty new at that.

I like to do my own wrenching, consider myself very inexperienced.  But I believe in good shop procedures and get to work alongside really experienced guys at DirtCheap.

So I'm on this forum to ask questions, will try to make them not stupid.  Live in East Dallas and enjoy adult beverages with other gearheads.  My beautiful Miss Joan cuts me lots of slack now that I'm too old to get in much trouble at night.

Have fun with gasoline, gentlemen.
C.

Welcome, Chuck (my son's nickname, though his real name is James. As you yanks say, go figure!)

A search of the site will give you lots of advice on in-fuel-tank stuff and cheaper than genuine replacements. If in Oz you could get a Commodore fuel pump. Smile

From your description of yourself, we in Oz would call you a petrol head, used by some in a derogatory way, but used by motoring (2 and 4 wheel) enthusiasts it's a compliment.

Bill

Chuck in Dallas 177912 I've said it before - the only stupid questions are the ones you don't ask. Trust me - we've all been at the starting line.

Welcome too and as Dai says don't be afraid to ask questions. We all started somewhere with these things and Ks while they are simple enough in many respects have their ways.

As for 600 mile trips, the K will eat them. Just make sure you adjust handlebar and lever angles to suit your preferred riding position.

Tell us a bit more about which model you have etc.
