I'm a 62 year old rider in California. I've been riding since I was 16.  My first bike was a Suzuki 80.  I've owned a couple of Honda's a 1976 BMW R90/6 and recently a 1981 Kawasaki KZ1100 Shaft driven model.  I spent 35 years in Texas during which time  I didn't ride (the commute on IH-635 scared the bejeezus out of me).  After returning to California I picked up the aforementioned KZ for next to nothing, just to make sure that getting back into riding was what I really wanted to do.  After that was established, I got tired of cleaning up the leaked oil before and after riding.  Oil on the bike, oil of the ground and oil on my clothes and boots.  So I decided it was time to upgrade and found a K1100RS in excellent shape and have been having the time of my life.  I found this forum while trying to replace a mirror the previous owner had lost/damaged/whatever.  He said it fell over in the garage.  Anywho, I bought OEM BMW parts but was dismayed by the lack of any kind of instructions at all.  So here I am.  I have some updated info to share on replacing K-model RS mirrors that can save someone a lot of grief.  Unfortunately, I had to come by that info the hard way.

Cheers,
Nolo

That looks very smart indeed. Congratulations on getting back on a bike, and a BMW in particular. I am nearly 60 myself and am busy buying the bikes I could not afford when they were new. I returned with a K100LT, just to see whether I could still manage it, then bought a K1100LT, and now have a K1200RS. I hope you enjoy your K.

Welcome to the forum from one who is also over 60. Maybe wisdom in choosing good bikes comes with increasing age.
