Riding a September 1983 K100 ex Japan. Landed with 17,000km on odometer and most of the K1 fairing bodywork fitted. Work done since purchased: Fitted a stainless reusable oil filter (I know they cost, but you only buy them once and when changing oil you get to inspect the surgical grade filter mesh to see any contaminants filtered out. I have been running one in a 1997 Moto Guzzi Daytona RS for four years and am happy with it; Fitted an HID headlight kit and am removing it - not happy- had a bulb failure at night and not the easy change a standard H4 or LED H4 globe is. Other problem with my HID is that there is a short period of no light when changing from low to high beam. Have an H4 LED bulb (plug in and play) ordered and will report on how I find it after some use;.Shorai Lithium battery fitted. A quantum leap forward in most aspects. You do need to trickle charge them if you have some current draw when not in use such as a digital clock. They can be charged, but you must use the right type of charger; Fitted an Ohlins rear shock and have purchased a Works Performance shock for the other K100. You need good suspenders; Replaced the Speedo/Tacho/idiot lights after ongoing problems with a Koso RX1N. Very good unit and so much lighter I weight. Wiring took some working out and if using BMW circuit diagrams from Clymer/ Haynes be are that there are quite a few changes based on year and model. I only need to sort out neutral light and low fuel level lights. Will look at following an excellent post on fixing the fuel level sender problem; Met a bloke recently who reported excellent results changing to an external fuel pump and filter. 2 advantages: more fuel capacity in tank and ease of access for servicing; The majority of bearings, seals and nuts/bolts can be purchased as aftermarket. BMW unlike many makers provides specifications for these in its parts manuals. I try to source baring from quality makers such as SKF. Often there are big savings over buying the BMW part.
Second K100 is a 1986 K100RS with 56,000km on odometer. Undergoing a slow restoration/café racer conversion. Am looking at a big upgrade to front end suspension and brakes. Have purchased a Suzuki GSXR1100 front end, 6 pot callipers, Stainless lines, larger capacity front master cylinder, modern Triumph switchgear, clip ons and larger BMW 3 spoke rims so as to fit radials and fatter tyres. A lot still to do.
This forum is impressive. Members seem committed to the K100/K75 machine and they like the challenge of keeping an older machine going and improving it. Yes, Bricks can Fly!

Welcome too!!

I tried the H4 LED and found it useless. It was so bad I took it out without even riding with it in. I also tried a high wattage H4 and its way better but you must install the relay with heavier wiring and ceramic bulb holder to avoid problems like burning out he switch and melting the wiring and bulbholder.

Somewhere on the forum someone did a HID conversion but to make it work you need to also replace the reflector inside the headlight as part of the conversion. Even then its not best because the glass is not designed for HID units. Pair of HID driving lights may be a better alternative, if you have somewhere to mount them.

Thanks Olaf. I'm inclined to agree that the best option is upgraded lighting wiring, relay and fitting a ceramic bulb holder. High quality H4 bulb and quality LED Aux lighting. Plan to go down that route, probably using the Easternbeaver kit.

Hi Ya RedRock welcome to the Knuthaus from a bit North West.
I fitted Narva Plus 120 and they are a huge improvment and am now fitting Plus 120 H1 bulbs to my car.
