Hi all

I have a question that hope someone can help with.

I have k100rs style the black and red special edition model.

It has the same sports fork which are also on k75s and are stamped s on the top.

I have changed the fork seals and new oil.

The question is i have put oil in and the right hand fork appears to have less damping.

I read on a few post that these forks only damp in the left leg.

Is this right as a bit worried now its the right leg that has less damping.

Hope someone can help

Smoll

I also have one of these, so glad to hear another one still survives.

I use 280cc per leg as described in the following  link

https://www.k100-forum.com/t1439-forks-and-oil

My K1100RS does use different amounts of oil per leg but this should not be the case for your K100RS 8V with Sports forks.

AFAIK the only bricks that have different damping in each leg is the K1100 and they have rebound in one and compression damping in the other.

One of them has massive rebound damping, as far as I can remember they are the same in regards to compression damping. I think I set the same air gap in both but whatever it was it was too hard, now that some has thankfully spewed out (like they all seem to do) it's nice and soft again Rolling Eyes

Hi all

I stripped the problem leg down and all looks as it should but still little compression damping. Any thoughts what might be causing this. I have the correct 280 of oil. Bit at loss. Help:no:

Thanks.for the replies.

Little compression damping as in you can slam it together without a spring in there?

I don't think they have a whole lot of compression damping, it only becomes apparent when the spring is in and the air is trapped inside. But of course then they are very difficult to test by pretending it's a pogo stick, unless you weigh many kilos!

lighter oil = less damping.  Perhaps the previous fill used a heavier grade than what you are using.

Did you have any resolution, Smoll1?

I have retrofitted the 'S' forks to my OZ-based K100RS (five or so years ago now) and immediately loved the difference from the long-travel, plushy ride forks it came stock with. Combined with a firm as Bitubo (Eye-talian) rear shockie it is stable but still edgy and follows the road
como el comando Dioses moto (as the moto Gods intended). I use 280cc of 5W oil in each tree trunk to retain some suppleness over the ripply bits. The springs inside are still OEM.

Yes I noticed, but I guess due to our catholically influenced folklore,in our sayings we never refer to many gods, only one.

Stripped down forks still get no resistance when i push up and down.

If the plastic sealing ring on top of the damper rod is faulty do you think this might be causing the problem? All the rest of the parts appear to be in ok condition.

It isn't any valve components for the damping in the RHS leg on the sport fork.

Entiendo, but I have no such bonds. Pero, necesito practicar mi Espanol. Please pardon my casual re-interpretation.

A long time ago I had a summertime relationship with a sweet Mexican-American girl, the daughter of a Spanish diplomat and a Mexico consulate employee in L.A. She spoke English with no accent but her 'Spanglish' irritated her father, who insisted she speak Spanish 'como Dios manda'. I never forgot that very useful phrase.

Back to the 'S' forks, I always knew they had separate functions, but more specifically, I had only a vague idea that one of them did the damping part of the show, but knew that both were sprung.

If only one fork has damping it must be ok. I will put back together and put on bike and see what like. I think as is was special edition bike with brembo sports fork same as k75s all the written information about them is different. Hopefully it will be ok. I got confused as i emailed bmw and they said the bike damped on both legs. I took them apart and as was said above their are no damping parts inside.

Thanks for comments
