G'day from Duncan in Sydney, Australia... I bought a 1985 K100RS recently as a "fixer-upper" - for all of $500. Intention was to turn it into a cafe bike (sacrilege?), and I had lots of fun doing it.
44 kgs of 'stuff' was removed…! Tricky stuff was making the 4-1 collector box out of stainless, the f’glass seat pan/box (messy - lots of foam and plaster of paris for the plug and mould), and making the tail light/indicators from a bunch of red and amber LEDs. I chopped the frame off behind the shock mount, and welded on a bracket for a small gel battery under the box.
After selling the excess parts, it stands me in at about $900, and one can't go wrong with that... It goes like the clappers - great fun to ride! I've always been a Ducati tragic (still have a few in the garage), but I'm rapidly becomg a K-convert...
