Just learned on the papers it is an American built ship. Sanderling brand...
ERRATUM :
Since I posted this, I learned a lot more interesting things about BAS.
I did email
http://www.marshallcat.com/ to inquire about my boat history, the owner kindly answered that they never built any 30 ' sail boats, (BAS is actually 32 ' = 9.6 m).
From the previous owner, and another "Sanderling" owner, I learned this boat was built in Antwerpen Belgium (Linkeroever = left bank) along with about 10 other ones buy some sailing club enthusiasts in what seems to be some hangar or warehouse.
My guess is that they used the hull of a flush deck wooden racing boat (that would explain the narrow bow and sleek Norwegian stern) to make the mold for the hulls of this mini serie and designed their own deck blueprint to turn it into a comfy cabin "yacht".
The first owner and the "marine carpenter" which has made all the nice wood cabinets, table, bunks etc... put this boat on a trailer and sailed the Mediterranean see for one summer.
Next they participated in a race from Zeeland to Acores and return about 5.000 nautical miles in 1986. WOW !
I also learned that the lead used for the keel was nightly "salvaged" from a nearby closed down factory LOL !
That makes it into a real Corsair/Pirate ship !!!
Maybe they claimed it to be lead (for customs) when it is actually pure GOLD
Makes sense on a purely tax evasion perspective.
Poor weather (cold and stormy) this spring, I was in Colijnsplaat for 2 weeks in March, and "Katie" fell on her left side while on the center stand with gusty wind above force 10 Beaufort = > 110 Km/h.
The rain protective cover must have acted as a spinaker...
No damage except for a bent side stand lever, and I had to re insert the left mirror which came off.
This boat was claimed as a Marshall shipyard product to get official registration (Vlag Brief = Lettre de Pavillon = Flag Letter), since there was no real naval architect approved by the Belgian authorities at the time...
Fringe benefit : Officially registered as 8.95m total length (under 9 m for marina fees) while it really measures 9.6m.
about 30 % saving as boats over 9 m are considered wealthy yacht men' s boats and bleeded accordingly.
Still mad in love with you BAS !
