HELP!  I'm trying to find a part number for an O ring that fits on the auxiliary drive shaft next to the thrust washer.
In my Clymer page 123 it is shown as item 11
In my Haynes page73 it is shown as item 16

If I knew how to I would paste the exploded drawings. I have tried searching on RealOEM but the exploded drawing on that site does not show an O ring.

Come on all you brick masters out there; help out a rookie K grease monkey

When you say 'auxiliary drive shaft' are you referring to the engine output shaft, something inside the gearbox, or the actual driveshaft?

To include a www.realoem.com image simply download it as a PDF or JPG and include it in the forum the same way you would any image.

TWB he is referring to the Alternator auxiliary shaft with free wheel o ring part 12 (page 22 sect 11(engine)) of the K series repair manual) or in his case page 73 of the Haynes Workshop Manual, I cant see a size for it in either manual either.

Probably not needed but I would take it, or the part it fits to, to your local automotive trade supplier and get one to fit. O-rings are pretty standard. Just make sure you allow for any wear or compression.

Played with this last night and it seems we have been copy/pasting too many images from realoem.

The right click 'save as' option is now gone

Looks like the whole thing has been redone

This site has the same parts images and you can right click to copy. To get to the M/C part tho it looks like you have to search your VIN No. It then opens at the main part page for your model.

I just right click and 'Copy image location' then all you need to do is paste the link into the add picture button here. Much quicker

The OP is looking for an O-ring that probably goes on the shaft of part#3 in the diagram above (if compared to the drawing in Clymer). BMW doesn't list this part so there is no BMW part number nor any indicated size. Kaptain's suggestion is the best -- go find an equivalent at an automotive parts store.

Is it possible that Clymer has it wrong. I know there are a few mistakes in the Haynes manual. Hard to believe BMW would get that wrong.

Does the o-ring serve a purpose?

However comparing the drawings, it looks like the realoem drawings are separated into two at the bearing/seal retainer plate and that's where the o-ring goes (on the shaft).... so could've been missed

BMW part numbers that have an A or E after them in ETK (Elektronic Teile Katalog) are NLA (No Longer Available).

I was just in the sprag clutch/alternator drive arrangement on my K11/K12 hybrid and there's no need for an o-ring as on mine
(da bot a' dem) there wasn't a circular bit of rubber there.

That will be why that number shows up as 'not recognised' when I try to find a supplier. Motorworks over here tried to find the part but could not help either
