As the maintenance continues and I finally managed to reassemble the master cylinder/throttle.
I fished the heated grip cable back thru the bars and was looking at re-soldering the wires.
I had previously bought a new connector block from M'works, but it comes without the metal connectors.

Funny what you come across when you're not looking for it 4way_c10

and I had spent a bit of time trying to jemmy them out of the old connector....needless to say a waste of time
So in the end I had to cut it apart and then make sure none of the 4 were too crushed or damaged.

But whadya know as I was looking for an unrelated part in the workshop this morning I came across these

Funny what you come across when you're not looking for it Heated10

must have bought them 20 years ago or more for some project or other.

so it just goes to show ....never throw anything away

Onwards & upwards

Rod,

Those are the females.....so where are the males??????? I thought we had all the females out with us on Saturday, seems you are hiding a few in your bottom drawer.

I saw buckets of them in a motor factors recently. I didn't buy any. I have some too. As you have just found, everyone should have them.

Indeed Olaf, always a good idea to keep a few females stashed away for a rainy day.
The males are on the other connector fortunately.....otherwise I'd be bunched.
so hopefully will get the soldering done later and that part will be done.

While I was at it yesterday I ran a bit of washing up liquid around the tyre valve stems as both tyre's have been deflating slowly since I had Cotter's replaced them.....would you believe BOTH are leaking.
Have ordered new one's from M'works and will fit them myself.

K sure is keeping me busy, and I thought Landrovers were high maintenance !

Indeed,
what I am learning is to take my time and not rush it.
Which is probably a good philosophy anyway, and I'm saving a load of money too

win win

And what I was originally looking for was this roll of silicone rubber tube to put over the soldered connections

Funny what you come across when you're not looking for it 110

I guess it won't be needed now so it's back on the shelf....!

Rod - they look like 4.8mm terminals to me and you need 6.4mm ones for that terminal block. Additionally, you're going to need the ones with a tang on the rear as even if my eyes are betraying me as regards the size, those will not latch into the block.

The flat blade terminals used on the the heated grips is 2.8mm.
You can see a picture of the OEM terminals which I did post in a
other thread by DeRodster from a few week back.
.........and yes they do have a locking tab.

Quite right both of you though how you figured the size astounds me.
In any case I went back to the original ones which are now soldered and insulated  and all is restored.
I have yet to test whether they work but I imagine they will.

Hope to test run I a day or so and I'll know for sure

Adios

You must be expecting a lot of soldering to need 10 metres or do you know something we should know??

I guess a good answer would be "it got transferred from another job !"

In any case I now have heated grips up and running ;-) and just in time for summer !!!

Have yet to test the cooling fan so fingers crossed on that

Saddle and tank back in situ, mind you, re-fitting the saddle and aligning it is fiddly..but it's done now

Next job is to bleed the front brakes

Then it's on to refitting the fairing, though I'm tempted to leave it off for now.

more anon

Rod

Rod

Funnily enough, I use my heated grips more in summer.........that's when one gets caught out with thin gloves on a cool evening.

In winter I've always got thick gloves or my Gebring hybrid heated gloves.

Paul.
