Boy, am I a lucky rider. I went on a run with some friends this morning. After cover about 140ks and a good lunch (lobster and steak) I went to see Mick Dyer* in Penrith (NSW). When Eli was looking at the bike he pulled the clutch in, SNAP, one busted clutch cable. He was able to do a temporary repair.

So after $50 and 45 mintues I was back on the road. I do have to get a new cable very soon.

*Mick Dyer is a BMW mechanic and one of the best.

The sun does smile down occasionally, doesn't it? I think we've all got a tale or two of a lucky quick fix.
I'm in the middle of winter maintenance on my K75RT. My clutch cable is the original one (1991 vintage) and I'm thinking of replacing it with a new one before I have to call on the sun to shine on some dark back road. Moto-bins sells one (CLUTCH CABLE(FEATHERLIGHT)K100RT/LT. K75RT. K1100LT. Exceeds original spec. Made by Venhill in UK.) that I'm considering. Does anyone have any experience with it, or should I just stick with the OEM?

yes ...and they work very well

have a look at the thread on the clutch lever distortions to the cable retainer ...and breakages encountered ...some times a new lever may help if badly worn as well .

cheers

Definitely stick with OEM and make sure you get the little nylon sleeve that goes into the clutch lever. I have had both in my hand, OEM is better. Any my friendly ex BMW man of 30 years also insists on OEM cables. I do have a spare here, its a Venhill and its way thinner than the OEM which we fitted instead. When I put the OEM one and changed the pivot bearing in my clutch became usable with one finger.

I know that feeling.

Took a family holiday camping in France. Drove home from the ferry port, put the car into reverse to park with the back facing the house to unload all the camping gear. Bang. Timing belt snapped. Usual damage, all covered by warranty as the replacement had been done to schedule at the main dealer. Unloaded the stuff then took a bus to town to pick up the other car I had left parked in a car park.

I'm unhappy with Mick, I bought a "Mick Dyer" Racing T shirt from him in 1997, and it's developed some holes in it this year. I should go back and complain.
