Hi all,

Looks like I've forgotten to introduce myself. I've got a red '93 K1100LT for about 8 months and managed to go around Scotland and back, and then Wales and a nice Ireland trip and back without any fuss, total measured mileage is just over 6000 miles now. Having three bikes in the garage and mainly working from home, I didn't put as many miles as I like it to have on it but there's still 4 months to go and I aim to reach 10k before it is April again. It should be achievable if the weather permits it!

Cheers,
Hakan

Thanks! I had registered myself before I got the bike, with the anticipation. I was sure I was going to get either a K100LT or a K1100LT. After a couple of near misses, ended up with my current one! Today I stumbled upon the forum and thought "I better get myself registered, it looks like a trove of information", and then went "hang on, I did, didn't I?"...

4k miles to go, easily done, right! I just need to get out of the house and start riding!

Cheers
Hakan

I hear it rains a lot in England. Wink

I hope the fairing is good and you have wet weather gear.

My K100RT fairing is fine in the rain at highway speeds, but the rain in the slow, winding part on the way home from the New England (NSW, Oz) ride got around the fairing a fair bit.

Bill

It does but the LT's fairing does a good job. As you have said, it works quite well on the motorways. We rode in a storm in Ireland this summer between Dublin and Limerick and the only time I got serious amount of water on me was when we had stopped for a bite & rest at a motorway service and I had to go back to the bike to fetch a fleece jacket... The previous owner had installed a larger screen, which helps.

Currently it's not the rain but the cold and the black ice but it looks it is going to get warmer around 8C during the weekend, meaning I might be able to get a couple of hundreds of miles out of it. A short dash to the seaside might be fun.

Cheers,
Hakan

For the purpose of inducing jealousy:    Wink

Our 'Straya Day ride tomorrow has a forecast max temp of 29C for most of the area we're riding. Very Happy  We'll be along the South coast of NSW for most of it.

Never had the 'pleasure' of dealing with black ice, even though I live in one of the cooler parts of Oz. Accident reports even for cars suggest that I will very happily forgo that particular 'pleasure', and certainly wouldn't wish it on any of the K fraternity.

Bill

That sounds really nice. I hope you have a good day out. Smile

The LT is quite warm around my legs in traffic, when I am commuting even low degrees don't appear to affect me much but I got to fix the heated grips! The previous owner had installed them but didn't plug them in since he didn't find a good place to tie down the on/off button and didn't want to cut the plastic bit over the handlebar. I got an other one in Ebay and I just haven't found any time to take the original one out and put this one in. Maybe next weekend I can sort it out. I haven't done much of my own maintenance on the BMW and I got to say I am a bit afraid of ruining it but I got to do it before winter is gone...

Cheers
Hakan

What a shame, a visit to Ireland never met an Eccentrics. Only one thing for it, a return visit. You have, like most of us, found the K fairing to be excellent in all weathers......

Indian036 is coming here on 20 March for the weekend........there's your cue. He can get here from Australia so high Wycomb shouldbe an easy hop across.....

And if you want a bit more Becky and Born Again Eccentric are both planning a trip over here for 1st August, camping trip.......with a few Eccentrics of course.

Come over any time, e are scattered around the country and if we know you are coming no doubt someone will meet up with you......

I did 600km yesterday, started out at -2c, freezing fog too but the sun came through and it was as only a K can be in such conditions: perfect. This morning a little rain but about 5c and with gear on it felt very snug.
