Did a full oil service (engine, gear and final drive) on my older K100. Everything went OK until the last bolt destroyed a thread on its place... Evil or Very Mad Well I found a longer bolt on my sparebolt bin and it worked well. Allthough I was very carefull these things seem to happen - bike is almost 30 years old and all.

So my question is:

It is one of the three bolts that keep the oilfilter cover on it's place. If I will destroy that thread totally next time I'm changing my oilfilter is it so that I can get the whole oilpan off and those threads are on it? And so it can be fixed or replaced while off.

Yep, I discovered this after I fitted an AC Delco oil filter. I managed to get it on, but couldn't get it off (Slightly smaller, tool wouldn't grab). It was a good chance to clean the bottom of the pan anyway.

If you find yourself doing an oil filter change and do not have the filter removal tool you can take off the oil pan and remove the filter that way. You need to make sure when refitting it that you use the gasket /sealant [not sure which]. It does make a fix of the three bolts filter housing a very easy fix....
