Sometimes I just cant get myself out of bed and I find it very difficult to get started...
Sorry wrong list.
Went out for a ride today, 480km loop. Somewhere along the way I began to notice a noise in the driveline, not loud but noticable. Nothing on drive but always there on the over-run while slowing(off throttle). I tried using different gears but it made no difference to the level or frequency of the noise (so the gearbox is unlikely). Leaves the rear drive or the driveshaft as the source.
Once I got home I felt both my rear drive casing and Maries R1150R for comparison. The RS rear drive housing was hot, Maries was just very warm. I dropped the oil into a clean container. The magnet on the drain plug had a good coating of small metal chips, the oil looked like dark grey metallic paint but didn't smell burnt at all. So it looks like at least one bearing has failed. I'll pull it out tomorrow to check the spline condition before deciding to rebuild(not in my skillset but I have people who can help) or source another replacement. Hasn't had a bad life though, around 150,000kms, around 110,000 of that with the sidecar.
If I have to source a replacement it also gives me the chance to fit an RT unit to lower the gearing (better for sidecar use).
Anyone know where I can find a decent K100RT rear drive (aluminium finish, 20 spline)
