Hi all,
My name is Pete and I live in Hertfordshire (UK) I have owned K's since they first came out, currently on my third one. A K100RT which alas is under rebuild after 184,000 miles. Doesn't need much but time and pennies................

Welcome along Pete. 184k is good mileage but no at all unheard of. You'll get there!

Hi Pete! There's some seriously high mileage flying bricks lurking around here. Alas, with a paltry 63,000 miles mine isn't one of them.

Hi Pete welcome to the forum.

Small world!

As an apprentice, in the early 70's I moved from Liverpool to work and live in Harlow and used to ride through Ware on a regular basis. I recall a bike shop which had a Vincent in the showroom. The owner said if I could start it at the first attempt I could have it. I couldn't of course!

I used to ride a 500 Triumph, progressed to a 750 twin, and then a Z1. I remember S&S Motorcycles in Standard Abbots with the turbo Z1 that was featured in Motorcycle Mechanics sitting in the window of a showroom.

I traded the Z1 in 1978 for a new R100RS, which I still have , and sits it the garage with another airhead, a K1100LT and R1150RT.

Mike

Mmmm I think that R1150RT was seen up at Craggy Island a week ago, in the company of some Irish Eccentrics. It certainly left Bjorn a little puzzled.

Pete I hope we will see you over here at some time.

The Z1 was an amazing bike, so very fast. In a straight line. But the contrast with the R100 was interesting. The R100 had a much higher average speed over long distances for touring. But who remembers Godier and Genoud and Bol d'Or??

I had a 6 foot by 4 foot Z1 poster on my bedroom wall. And a Honda CB500-4 parked in the garage because I wasn't tall enough to ride anything bigger.
