Hi everyone.

I've been searching the motobins and motoworks BMW websites for a replacement pressure plate.
I noticed the plates have sections drilled out of it in different locations.
I purchased a pressure plate and when I compared it with the old plate I noticed the drilled out section are in different locations.
Wondering how would it be possible to "balance " the plates in that situation?

Cheers

In my experience they are balanced then put together as a pack and checked then marked to keep that position and installed.
I have not come across any plates that have needed work after the initial balance which is done at the factory.

Unfortunately I bent one of the pins.
For those who do purchase replacement parts, is it possible for them to be balanced.
Is it possible for the bent pin to be straightened?

All of the clutch components have individual part numbers and are not sold in a set so it stands to reason that you can whack any component of the four main pieces in any manner they fit.

The plates needing balancing are balanced individually.

You do not need to balance them it has been done at time of manufacture.
Don't try to repair the pin it will fracture and probably break at a later time.

Thnk you for your replies.
The last two in particular have put my mind at ease.
I found it difficult to understand the reasoning for the marked components.

I have also watched many videos where the plates are installed in no particular order.
Is a second hand part an option? I've heard that these plates often warp or should I purchase a new plate.. They're not cheap!
Cheers

The steel plates get a dish to the centre check it with a straight edge. I have about 6 clutch sets here and all have quite a dish in them.

Hi to all the forum members

I purchased a pressure plate from Motoworks.
I noticed a mark on the plate, similar to a white paint brushstroke.
The pressure plate with the mark is the one with the three pins.
The other plate didn't have any mark.
The mystery deepens?

Ps I also purchased optimal paste..it's a silver colour. Can I use it for all of the splines?

Optimol silver is the stuff for all of the splines. It's almost as good as Honda's Molykote 60.

There's no need to be concerned with balance, or drilled balance holes, on individual clutch plates/discs.

That tube of Optimol will last for years. It looks expensive but small amount goes a long way.

Hi guys

Thanks for your responses.
I had another look at the two pressure plates and both of them have been marked with white paint.
Apologies for the omission.
I was concerned about my optimal paste. Mist references point to a white paste but I won't be concerned.

Cheers

White Optimol is the older goo, grey is the latest and greatest.

Hi
I have a question about the friction plate. I have purchased new pressure plates and a friction plate.
It's not n original part. It's made Bryan Italian company.
Any concerns about this situation.

Cheers

No need for any concern there. I have one in my K1100 and it's quite good.

Just for more moral support.

When I reassembled my K I had no reference for the balancing of the separate discs. I cant recall weather I just threw it all together randomly or if I put the drilled balance bits all pointing away from each other...

Either way, no issues in terms of balance at all. My bike runs smooooth as.

Good luck mate
