My wife is of the opinion that most of you are mythical beings who whisk away her husband to places unknown for reasons unknown on the pretext of 'a bike ride'.

Show us your faces. And your families faces.

How about a night away with our families in a caravan park somewhere on the coast to fish and talk and drink and fish and drink.

Christmas is fast approaching so thinking either November or early December. Before the holidays.

Open to ideas, but can't wait too long if bookings are needed. Somewhere on the central coast would be good.
The Entrance, Long Jetty etc. Nice mix of flat water and beaches.

Bung the family on the K in the car, pack the rods and esky and have a good old weekend away with some new faces.

Thoughts.

At the beginning of December, Lindy and I go to Forster for a week. It's before the "peak season" so the prices are still cheap.

That has worked very well for us Irish Eccentrics and is an excellent fun idea.

We have a meet up on the Saturday after Christmas just brunch and no ride out, unless you come on the K. Its fun. I got an invite from Sgmayhew to come for mince pies afterwards, mainly to convince gis wife he was meeting up with some respectable people. Not sure whether the ruse worked but the mince pies and hospitality were definitely consistent with the friendliness that exists on the forum.

I have done these holiday meet ups for a few years where we just meet up camping and cook up a few bbqs and never had better fun than what it produces.

So go for it because you only live once.

Depending on venue and date, boat available.

Forster is nice, but maybe a bit far, for me depending.

Great idea, Is there a good holiday park with water front cabins on the lake? Possible for the first weekend in December for us.

Time for some research.

There are quite a few, but depends on Bella and Seamus' attendance.

Not all parks cater for the owners of sidecar dogs.

As far as I know , Canton Beach  Holiday Park is dog friendly and close to Norah Head , which has beach access for young and not so young, Lighthouse , burger shops and a top little cafe overlooking the ocean.

Just rang the Holiday Park , Dogs OK ( on lead ) in powered and non powered sites . not in cabins.

Won't be able to make that weekend as we're going to that large rally in Canberra the weekend before and will make a ride of that through the snowy and up through Cooma to CanBraaa.

I'd expect a Friday night arrival , as they have a 2 night minimum booking.as do most places.

I'll be passing thru that area middle of Dec on my way to Sydney then on to Melbourne for Xmas but have work commitments around first week. If that changes I'll certainly come and pitch my tent for a night or two.
Cheers

as an alternate venue, something that fits my schedule and may suit others, with a bit of bike fun as well.
Newcastle will be holding its annual Xmas Toy Run on the 7th Dec.
It gathers on the Stockton foreshore on Sunday morning and heads around to Newcastle foreshore for festivities there. Approx 21km that takes up to an hour to get to due to the large crowd, last year it attracted 5000-6000 riders. including at least one RS.
This is a great community event , its not just bikers out riding , its the community coming out to support them and their efforts.
have some fun dressing a K up with Xmas deco's. either your own or I can supply .
Stockton Beach Caravan park is nestled overlooking the ocean , with great fishing off the breakwall,
and a ferry runs 24/7 across to Newcastle where some fine dining can be acquired. the van park currently is allowing pets on its 12 month trial period.
otherwise 2 pubs and an RSL club in Stockton.
Stockton is a top spot to be on a summers evening.

My father was headmaster at Stocko school for many years as well as Wickham public so I spent a bit of time around there. I can recommend the fishing off Stocko beach....flathead and whiting etc in close...with salmon, Tailor and Mulloway wider. Mackerel off the breakwater etc. "Pillies" being the bait of choice.
Damn...I can see I am going to have to try and squeeze this one in...I'll have friends doing the toy run as well.

Schoorn.

Sean, I threw in an alternative for that weekend if it was workable for others . I'm guessing there is a strong possibility that people have booked into Canton Beach already.
like others , my calender just doesn't allow me the time to get there . It is a top spot there on the Central Coast and a great idea put forward by Rosskko .
Stockton and the Toy Run will only be on my agenda should this gathering be available to swap venues. sorry to throw any spanners in guys.

Yes Edvaard, I understand this.
As is usual with these things, the person who originated the idea should probably just pick a place and date and get on with it. In this case I think it is that Russian guy, Rossokovsky I think. Then the rest of us can decide whether we can attend or not and work with it. Smile

So what started as a brilliant idea turns into a bit of a sows ear.

Looks like every park with villas/ on-site vans requires a minimum two night stay.

Two nights is not an option for me and neither is a tent.

Anyone got any thoughts? Yes Ed, even you.

Rosskko,I'm guessing no one was willing to offer a single night for a group booking?

I just rang Stockton and they will offer one night of tenting for up to a dozen sites, if attending the Toy Run. santa, in the name of charity of course.
Cabins are definitely 2 nights , but will be swayed if they have spare bookings closer to the date needed. meaning if you ring tues/wed and someone has booked thurs /fri , and the next booking for the same cabin taken is Sun/Mon, they will offer Sat as a one nighter.
this may work with other parks, but trying to secure everyone a site is very awkward , even more so in advance.

 anyone else have any luck?

now back I go to my corner , awaiting further news.

for somewhere a bit quieter on the opposite side of the lake, Id suggest wangi wangi, lovely area, you can camp or cabin it right on the lake.

Sorry for the late replies.
Seems most of the parks are linked in some weird sort of way and the all have the two night cabin stays.
I have not gone through asking individual parks if they have single nights (Saturdays) as there are too many to call.

So looks like this may have to be arranged at some time next year.
I think we will still be stuck with two nights, but if folks want to share a cabin it might make it easier.

So after all that my kids have decided they want to go fishing on that weekend anyway, so now it looks like a two night stay in a park to be determined, but one of the ones already mentioned.

Any takers? Two nights in a cabin or camping.
