So i bought one hoping to put it onto my LT as i want a bigger top box.

It's not a straight fit...but i guessed that before i bought it.

The rear passanger handles have to come off.

The front mounting points are OK but recessed in a long way.  If i use them as they are and with the space on the new rack i will either snap the new frame or break the bike plastics.

The rear mounting points are in teh right location but i'll need to cut the number plate holder back to get to the bolts...maybe a spacer needed here.

What i didn't know is the rack is not flat...the rear bar is set higher than the rest making mounting a flat plate hard.

It's a big faff getting it done..all i want is a bigger top box.

Mike

Looking at the K1100 fische, it's meant to go with the standard pannier racks. I don't see any spacers.
The lip at the back is a part of the locking mechanism for the large BMW top box.

My project ex-K1100LT came with panniers and the 35 litre top-box. I haven't got around to doing anything with it apart from strip it all off back in September.

You do seem to be correct Robin, the 35 litre rack mounts on the upper mountings of the Z-rails - if the bike has panniers.

From Inge's post, it looks as though there is a spacer bar for mounting the rack if no panniers and Z-frames are present.

Apart from that, I cannot imagine why the rear mudguard or the number plate mounting section would need to be modified.

I can't get pics on here today but let me explain in terms of the earlier picture.

I have pannier rails to fit the rear rack onto.

Bolt number 3 on the pic holds the pannier z rail onto the frame by the number plate holder/ mudguard thing.  The problem is that the rear mudguard thing sits over this bolt covering it completly.  i will ahve to cut the rear mudguard to expose the bolt so i can fit the rack to it.

Bolt number 2 holds the frong of the rack in place.  The plastic trim/panel under the rear of the seat sticks out so far that i cannot do up this bolt.  I will either bend the rack fail and snap it or break the bike trim thing.

With some spacers it will fit but it's not a straight on thing.

The yellow circles are the mount points. Ignore what I have in them.
I can't see how the rear one interferes with the number plate.

The rear mudguard is different on 2V's than the 4V's.

Also the frame brackets is moved ~20mm out from the center
of the frame on each side on the 4V's.....caused by the paralever.

I've got an 87 K100LT...

The bolt holes do line up so it should fit but my bike just looks a bit wider than the fram is designed to fit.

I'll have a play this weekend and see where i get.

So Inge, just to confirm...

Any rack designed to fit using the Z frame mouting holes will be wider on a k1100 then a k100 as the k1100 is wider at the point due to the paralever?

Correct? So in theory at least a rack for an 1100 will fit a 100 with spacers?
