Welcome paularpin - most of the information you need to get your new toy running properly can be found by searching/asking on this forum.  A BMW dealer will find lots of ways of separating you from your money  Wink

If you want an independent inspection the last place I would take my BMW is to a dealer.
Most of the technicians/mechanics have little to no experience on K100 bikes as they usually only work on new models within the warranty period.
Find a good BMW expert that knows K100s and consult them or if you feel that you are up to doing things yourself (they aren't a difficult bike to work on) with guidance from the many very knowledgeable people here then don't waste your money.
Have a look here and you will come away a lot wiser about what you have purchased

Ted went to a lot of trouble to help the novice owners through the first few months and it is very good advice.

Sorry I didn't say welcome to the forum.

Paularpin,

            Welcome Paul.
Word of advice from an old 'un. Never go to a BMW dealer with your bike. Every query you may have can and will be solved here. There is really a high standards here.
Don't be afraid to ask anything no matter how silly it may be to you.
We have all been there...

welcome paul

best advice i could make ...maybe...  to make sure its safe riding the new beast  ....new tyres a great help if you think that they are any older than say 5 years ...I rode on wonky wheels for ages before purchasing new rubber ....and what a change that made ...I really thought I had to  relearn  all the feel that I gathered after the rubber change .

get a feel for what its like after doing all the regular oil changes etc

good luck and enjoy the experience

G'day Paul and welcome to the circus!

Questions? Ask away. People here actually get a kick out of helping others.
You don't find that on too many forums...and a few laughs chucked in there as well!

I agree, in fact a few dealers I know send out older machines to specialists rather than do the work themselves, for this very reason.

The forum here will give you a lot and its good fun. Everyone is very helpful and lots of great advice.
