Hey guys,

can the riders from countries that have traffic on the left hand side of the road please let us know, if:

- you have uneven wear on your rubber?
- is it front or rear?
- which side is showing more wear?

Cheers uneven wear of your tyres Thumbup
Alex

A strange question, but because the road is cambered slightly with the centre higher than the edges (so rain water runs into the gutter) the right side of the tyres wear more than the left. It is particularly noticeable on the rear but it must happen to the front too.

I'm not so much concerned about the why at the moment, but interested in collecting data...  Very Happy

Just to make sure: You actually see more wear on the right-hand side of your tyres?

Judging by your origin you drive on the right-hand side of the road...  Cool

On narrower tyres yes. On fatter tyres (like that fitted to my TRX850) the wear is much less pronounced, I can't see much of a difference.. But then that bike has been to Germany twice on those tyres so it may be an anomaly!

If you're desperate for proof I can try and take a pic of the wear on my CB250's rear tyre? Might be one of those things that is difficult to take pictures of though. Is this not what you expected?

Nono, that's fine. I'm just collecting info.
It might (as you already pointed out) very well be that the camber of the road plays a significant role. Also, different driver behavior and preference towards left or right turns may play a role, as well as the radii that are different. All these are vice versa when driving on the other side of the road.

If more of the "lefty-people" see the same phenomena of pronounced wear on the right-hand side (as we see it on the left-hand side), that would be very convincing to me, as some still hang on to theories related to bike geometry or construction. However, that would be independent of wether driving on the left- or right-hand side of the road, meaning there would be no difference in wear between the two.

Thanks for the info so far! Other statements a very welcome as well...

Cheers,
Alex

Yes right side of tyres wear more in drive on the left countries. This is probably partly from road camber, and partly because right hand bends are "longer" than left hand bends, so you spend more time/distance on the right hand side of the tyres when cornering. I find wear on the right side of the front tyre is much more than on the right side of the rear.

Any more input? Some more people seeing uneven wear. Especially from those 'lefties' ?  sunny
