Hi, I posted earlier about having a very fast bike, even without a running engine - speedo goes to max as soon as you switch on the contact.
I have now opened the cluster/breadbox and found the green and orange gear wheels partially without teeth and the bodies flexible. Think someone sprayed electro-cleaner in there in anger and the plastic is no longer hard. The little gear that drives it all has broken away and was stuck between the other gears. Not good.

I had an other speedo that I'll use as a parts-bin, but am stuck. All the gear wheels are easily removable except for the little one on the drive shaft (left of the orange wheel). Off course I don't want to damage it, as I need it, but wonder if it is an interference fit or is there something else going on.

Appreciate any experience out there!

I can't offer experience Rene.  However, when I read your post, I was thinking these gears fail more and more as age takes their toll.  If someone could get the exact specs for the gears, duplicates could be designed using Sketchup and printed at will for low cost using Thingverse / Shapeways.  The choice of materials is vast nowadays and the replacements could be made of a Aluminide, strong flexible plastic or even metal.

Hi Rob, yes, I though a Spanish gentleman recently posted about having made some gear wheels with a 3D printer. They looked very good, but I think they only made a limited run and there was no response to queries from others. My problem is that I have (old) spare wheels, but I don't know how to get the little pinion off without damaging it. Guess I'll have to try as it isn't any worth like this....

I had a similar problem, and I had an entire spare instrument panel. I confess I took the easy way out - I replaced the entire unit when I found out the drive gear was one of the problem ones - it appeared to be glued onto the shaft, so I didn't want to try to get the spare off its motor. 

This meant I wound the odo back to approximately the right value, which meant going via the smallest gear, so it took a couple of days in front of the TV. I don't recommend that unless you absolutely have to. 

I do wonder if you can get replacement gears from hobby shops. I haven't tried, but I might try if I ever have to do this again.

I just ordered a set from the above address, not cheap but lifelong guarantee and I expect to do many more miles on this bike :-) The site was very clear that it is practically imposible to get the litle pinion off the shaft. So much for trying....
