I purchased a '87 K100 in January 2013. The bike had 161,162 km on the clock and would not start. It had to start before i would put the money on the table. We managed to get it to start (gummed up spraag) so I purchased my first ever bike at 60. The months that followed I lubed the splines from the clutch back (and replaced the clutch plate as I bumped it and it hit the concrete). The weather was nice so it was time for a ride. Got a block away and the oil light came on. Got it back to the shop, bought an oil gauge, fashioned an adapter to fit the oil sender hole and started the bike. Good pressure! Turned out to be a pinched oil sender wire. Oh ~ took riding lessons from a riding school in Calgary ~ before I took it for my oil light ride. Okay oil light problem solved! Went to start it and the spraag wouldn't engage. Took everything apart, cleaned the spraag (Extremely gummed up) in lacquer thinner, put it all back together and magic! Other parts I changed before I hit the road - clutch cable, air filter, tires, all fluids. My first ride was 3,800 kms down to Crater Lake Utah. Two weeks of fantastic weather! on a toaster!!! At Mt Hood I discovered that ethanol eats fuel lines ~ try finding ethanol proof (in & out) fuel lines . . . Managed to limp into Medford and got the right fuel lines a the bimmer dealer and made it home with out skipping a beat. Put it to bed last fall with 168,000km on the clock.

Today i received a new timing & guides, HD alternator and a new fan (trying to solve the toaster problem). So with a little luck & with the whether man's cooperation, I should be on the road next week.

Also, last fall I met the third owner of the bike (I am #5). He started riding when he was 19 and is still riding at 82!!! I can't keep up to him nor his friend. He just turn 81!!!
