Hi. I'm returning to motorcycling after about 15 years and starting with a 93 K100LT with 68000miles, which is a bit tatty but seems mechanically sound so far.

Buying this seemed a quicker and easier task than getting my 1977 Moto Guzzi T3 back on the road. That is my retirement project a few years away yet

Anyway I live just outside Birmingham UK like tinkering and understanding things for myself so this is also first time I have joined a forum. And this one after reading the quality of posts.

Welcome SlapEd,

Returning to biking after a long break and discovering K's seems to be a common thing. I did the same a couple of years ago and haven't looked back. They are great bikes to tinker with and parts are reasonably available and they are great to get out and ride on.

Don't worry about the "tatty" - that is all do-able with time (and money), "mechanically sound" is definitely preferable. However,  unless you are sure of the bike's pedigree and service history, it's worth checking/changing a few basics at the outset and giving yourself confidence in the bike and getting to know her better - engine oil & filter, gear oil, final drive oil, battery condition and drive shaft splines (I was quite daunted by this task, but it proved to be really straight forward). All these jobs are pretty easy to do...and don't forget to check your tyre age/condition as this has a marked effect on the handling of the bike. Then....get out and ride and enjoy.

Not sure how to use forums but trying to reply anyway. Yes I always wanted and rode a few airheads in the past but on recently looking for a bike they seem to have character and dare I say it reliability and performance! I haven't had much time to ride it so far but so impressed with top gear seems to cope with as low as 25mph to scary very quickly.

Must admit time riding it has been hampered by, as soon as I bought it speedo and indicator automatic cancelling not working and I'm determined to sort it before tackling Birmingham rush hour as I intend to commute instead of falling asleep in a stationary car.

Connections from transponder to cluster good and resistance seems ok at around 220 ohms and produces a very small ac voltage, if I can read a voltmeter correctly 0.2 Volts at about 3000rpm, before speedo amplifies it. Cleaned some connections in cluster but trying to download Karamba software mentioned in forum to test speedo and so far cant find download section.

I'll get there in time for the sunny weather. Cheers Steve

You come from the city that has probably made more motorcycles than any other city in the world - Brum. Everybody has heard of BSA but how many know that it stands for Birmingham Small Arms? It is also the birthplace of my Dad.
Have fun with the bike.
