After an total restoration that lasted over two years I am finally ready to ride my 86 K 100 RS.
Many thanks to this forum for all the help an valuable knowledge!!

It is the first time for me to ride a K bike and what I noticed  is that the RPM's seem to be low for a bike that redlines beyond 8000 rpm.

What I mean is I have to shift 1 and 2 and 3 gear at around 3000 rpm , 3500 max.

Riding 45-50 mph around town I have to use fourth gear!

At highway speed I seem to max out at 5500-6000 rpm.

I have a replacement engine with only 23 k miles on it, I checked the valves , throttle bodies are not synced yet but with all four air bypass screws 11/2 turns out the engine runs very balanced.

The new engine came without a Hall sensor so I put the old one in by the book, meaning I have not played with different advance settings yet.
No pinging so!

Maybe it is just the way K bikes ride but it seems odd to me.

Thanks for your help.

hi marten
the bike is looking very nice indeed.
about the engine , im not quite sure i understand what you mean ,: is it not possible to exceed those rpm¨s you mention ?
you should be able to redline it in 1st,2nd,3rd,4th, and at least 8k, in 5ft. have you checked for mice and birds in the intake manifold Very Happy

Hi there, before starting the lucubration I would check the tachometer.
Best regards

I haven't come across that personally but apparently the oil in the tacho gets stiff (we should all have such problems with age) and hard, maybe some dust as well and the tacho needle doesn't respond very well.
There was a bit about it not long ago and I think a link to a fixit, have a search around with the search function it works well even I can find things sometimes.
