I'm putting that right, I'm selling my Triumph Tiger Adventure mammoth as its just too big to take off road!
I'm hoping to get a 1992 K100LT off the bay, if I get outbid I'll soon find another   
Still trying to get to grips with the differences between 8 & 16 Valve motors, paralever/monolever et al, and which models have what fitted!
'Mine' has multi spoke wheels, no torque arm on the rear hub, its a 1992 K reg: is that 16V?
Can't wait to get on a BMW, I've rode one in the past and really enjoyed it, happy days!

Hi Mike welcome to the Knuthaus

All K100LTs had an 8 valve engine it was only the RS that went to a 16 valve engine at the end of 1988.
To get an LT 16 Valve you need to go to a K1100LT.
All the 16 valve engines had paralever rear suspension.

Welcome too....a good choice because a K comes with a load of guys here on the forum who are very helpful, full of good advice and very willing to share it. Some of us do meet up, enjoy a few beers, coffee or whatever. You will sooner or later find the LT might want a mate. The K100 really comes into its own when you are on along trip and begin to realise that most other bikes would have you feeling wrecked and you keep going to do 3 or 400 miles in a day.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your bidding. 

I had a quick butchers at ebay and reckon I found the bike you're bidding on (blue K reg). Seems to be a lot of bidding going on though - or maybe it's just you versus someone else! The current price is good, but with 4 days to go, don't get carried away. If you win, you will need some readies to make her yours and sort out the array of repairs/fixes that are usually required. As you say, there are several K100LTs available, so if this one doesn't come good, there will be another round the corner.

Once you've got your bike - this is definitely the forum to be part of for all the help and more.

I bought my current K100LT through ebay - (H reg, 1991 33k miles) - nobody bid on it so I got hold of the owner after the auction finished and got a really good deal. My first one came from an ad on MCN. I have been very pleased with both.

Take your time looking at them they come up regularly and buy the best one you can for your money. Give yourself a few hundred miles to get used to it and convert form other style machines and you'll be as hooked as the rest of us!

I've bought a 1995 K1100LT, good price but needing some work, more TLC than repairs.
Its had the ABS system removed, needs a front tyre, gauges not working....  
I've now fixed the gauges, just simple wiring faults, ordered a BT023 tyre, resprayed the mirrors black as they were badly colour coded, almost ready to roll

Excellent timing...just right for the summer. But they also make a great winter ride too. A few outings to Wales and you will feel years younger. By the way, check the dates on the rear tyre too, if its over 3 years I would change it, even if its hardly worn. Some will say good for longer but summer, sometimes greasy roads, oil, diesel etc .....

How about being a bit adventurous and cross the Irish Sea at some point, on a day trip even....

I'm fitting a part worn Avon Azaro 46 I took off my Triumph Tiger last year, to the rear: glad I kept it!
I've just changed the oil, nice to see a genuine BMW oil filter (replaced with a Mahle one!) genuine air filter, plus it came with a brand new BMW battery, so looks like its been looked after: The oil was pretty clean, I took the sump off as I haven't got the correct oil filter tool, it was spotless, not a trace of gunk or metal: not bad for a 92K mile bike

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but the K1100LT uses the BT45, same rim size as the K100 and a bias ply rather than a radial.
Good tyre but personally, I would recommend the Michelin Pilot. 
Handles well and twice the mileage of a BT45.
You can fit the wider rims from the K1100RS if you want radials. Look for the threads on the forum.

Think you'll find that the Azaro is a radial tyre too. Not recommended for older, narrow rims.

Well, every other forum suggests radials, Azaro rear and BT023 front   
The problem is finding correct sizes, hence the mix...but apparantly these work well! OR some fit  PR3 front, or Pirelli Angel.
The K1100LT is really heavy, especially on the front, so maybe thats why there's a difference between K100 and K1100?

Mike, don't just take my word for it. Check out the Bridgestone website.
You can put in your make and model and they will give you the recommended tyre.
The K100 isn't that light on its feet either. Rim sizes are identical with the K1100LT.
Just trying to prevent you from blowing a £100 on the wrong tyre.

Btw Avon has ceased recently production of the Azaro line, so they'll be no more in, say, a decade or so...

I've read a lot about whats best for the LT, as the fairing weight makes it the heaviest of the range by a fair amount.
I'm used to old bikes, I restore classic bikes for myself and have done rebuilds for others
