Hello, I'm Dale [DaleRT] 
   I have been a member [maybe i should say a 'new member' and add to the 'Aussie invasion'] for several months 
since getting hold of a 84' RT, few years ago. As you can imagine, having sat unused for some years then being used, issues arose. 
   Just about all the documented issues have been visited, either i've replaced / renewed / reconditioned / rejuvenated / renovated / restored or revamped bits & pieces BUT with the help of the Forum never retreated.
   I'm just over 1600mm [bit under 5 1/2', in old money]. Commute each day and comfortable with the 'K'.
   So, possibly a longwinded way of saying THANKS for the many who have given their time, effort & posts to keep me ride'n'.
   Maybe a bit 'Cocky' but with what i've experienced,  I'll tackle the impossible with nothing - but the Forum.
   Again, thanks to all who participate in this Forum.          Dale

have to agree with Rick , a bit Knutty at times but enjoyable.

Hi to all,    
   Yes, Al-58,, a bit further up than yourself and with a decent easterly, I’ll be out west

   groverK asked what was done, so, possibly for the benefit of newer owners …
 
New Battery then changed fluids and filters.
 
First hiccup, rear master cylinder ceased – new one needed & installed.
   Rear master cylinder reservoir replaced [Half of it came away when unscrewing the lid].
   Electrics / Lights all checked out OK, off for rego – registered.     
      And away I went … So I thought.
 
Now the maintenance begins …
   Slack / play in the throttle response – fixed [alignment off]
   Fuel pump dies – new one

   Was’nt running that well,  not that responsive – throttle body rubbers perished – new bits

While they were of,  replaced fuel lines, cleaned up injectors.  Engine vent hose perished – replaced  

   Instrument cluster bracket broke

   – fixed [it works]

   Speedo intermittent – working on it

      Gear indicator – intermittent [problem was the switch] fixed.   Alternator rubbers shot – replaced

The new & the worn

   Starter playing up – cleaned it up, behaving it’s self now
 

Problem selecting gears, went for the grub screw, off with the gearbox. 
  What you see, is the grub screw out and the seat slightly elongating.

While in there …
   Fixed the gear indicator switch
   Rear engine seal
   New clutch
   Clutch lever boot leaking – replaced
 
[ When putting the ‘lid’ on the gearbox, I held the sprung arm, leaver back with fishing line, keeping the tension on the lever till I had several bolts in. Then slowly released the tension. The sealer was’nt disturbed. There is no leaking of oil and it has and does change gear. [not understanding much, don’t like to disturb what I don’t have to]]
 
Noisy fuel non-return valve – tried to fix [pulled it apart and tried to reseat the ball] unsuccessful, so dismantled and put one in fuel line.

   Rear shock – shot, replaced – RAMS
   Replaced handle bar end weight ‘o’ rings
   New tyres 
 
All the above were tackled because of being discussed on this forum – for that I’m greatfull.
 
To do’s …
Fuel level sender unit [thermistor] not working, thinking of taking it on.
Speedo – not fixed yet but I’m close.
The Speedo has an error of reading under the actual speed, be tinkering with that latter.
Want to do something about the seat, I’m sitting on a board after about 15min.

Dale,

That's quite some impressive list of jobs done. For someone that is armed with nothing more than determination and the forum and for someone that states "not understanding much, don’t like to disturb what I don’t have to" you have done good. Enough there to have even a seasoned mechanic cursing.

Hope the final few jobs also come good and you finally get to enjoy the bike. Of course the oil & toil is part of the fun of being in the K club and helps get to know the bikes inside out and gives immense satisfaction when they are running sweet and looking good again.

I wonder - had you known it was going to be so much work when you got the bike a few years back - would you have opted for a tinny by the billabong instead?

dale , you've really gotten in there mate . such determination , must be that K bug getting hold of you.
the rubbers seem to be the most prevalent at this stage, to be expected for a 30 year old bike, especially if it has sat awhile.
keep at it , you will gain so much from doing the work yourself. and these old girls are easy to work on , so I'm told .
