I have had the genuine BMW radio out of my bike for a few weeks.  Reassembled it today and it now doesn't work. I put it back exactly how it came out (at least I think I did). Checked the fuse in the radio and the fuse on the bike.  Both good.

Could it be that the memory battery is now flat and needs to have some charge before the radio works?  Or do they just not like sitting on the bench for a few weeks?

The one in my RBike needs the unlock code entered into it after removing it from the battery. Sound like the problem?

When I turn it on it has no display to enter the code. It is almost like it isn't getting power.

If it's a genuine BMW radio then a code is needed.

I have the code and have entered it but the radio display remains blank.  If it keeps going I will just fork out the dollars and replace it with something of a better quality and a bit more modern.  Should be able to do it for around $300 and still be able to use the handlebar remote.

I just thought there may be some special sequence when the radio has been out for a while.  Like reciting the rosary while standing on your left leg, turning the ignition on with your right big toe and holding every button on the radio down with all your fingers. What a Face

But thanks for the info guys.

I'd be thinking a visit inside is needed, sounds like the display is not contacting with power, may be Verdi grease may be open circuit at a soldered point

Mine lights up when power is reconnected, I think the display shows b5 or something like that instead of the channel.

Did you try bashing it Smile

just be aware that most of these new fangled radios have 2 wires to the ignition

1 has permanent power (called battery backup and is usually individually fused )

the other is wired to the power after the ignition switch (usually enables the power on function including backlight )

I wonder if the backup wire is not a good connection ......or you have spiked it (big power surge during reconnection to the battery .....like multiple arcs and sparks )
might pay to try disconnecting the battery for about 30 minutes ....and trying again ?

regards

Silly question.........have you turned the radio on by turning the volume knob clockwise?

Next..... try to push and hold down the ST button for a few seconds see if that change something.

Well folks after going to bed complaining about Big Money Wasters and thinking I should not have to Bring Monstrous Wallet, I attacked the problem this morning from a calmer and more logical perspective.  I consulted the Bible and realised I was counting the fuses from the wrong side.  You guessed it - blown fuse.  Radio Help 61740   Replaced with a spare and now all is good.   Radio Help 723598

Given the above information K75cster, you can understand my reluctance to "visit inside".  Once I replaced the fuse the display was still blank, but did see the little light come and so put in the necessary code.  After 3 weeks out of the bike it even still remembered the station I was listening to (fogey fm for those who are interested).

As always, this forum is a constant source of valuable information and I appreciate all the comments.  Go on, you can tell me I'm an idiot now....you know you want to. Razz

well done Dave , been down the same track( wrong direction) myself at times . it was great to get help here on the forum., good to hear you got on top of it.
luckily my Radio/ cassette is still operational. I visited the old Op Shops and fleabay  for a while just to get the old tapes to play in it.
you can buy the adaptor to run your Pod's and mobiles through. great for letting every one else "enjoy" your faves.

can carry heaps of old - new - weird stuff once converted to digital format ...on cheap as chips ...don't bounce, usb drives ,,, and they come in "din" size
just a thought ..

Or get a Pioneer MVH-P7300 (the 8300 has BlueTooth) that uses SD cards or USB with a CD-MR50 waterproof marine remote. Then you can watch Easy Rider while you're riding.
