Anyone use the accessory ports?

WTF for?

Heated suit or something? What uses that type of connector? Im mulling over what Im going to do for power option on the bike, and for me, USB is far more useful....

Do you mean the "merit" plug socket on the left side of the bike?

If that's a yes, that's where I plug my trickle charger in.

Here is what it looks like. Buy them at Jaycar here in Oz.

If you are referring to the extra white socket in the electrics box under the tank then my understanding is it was originally supplied as an outlet for heated grips. Just change the connector type to suit. If referring to the one mounted on the ignition coil cover I am with the previous poster. I use mine for Battery charger too.

Has anyone suggested your first name be Pink at all ?? ;-))

The connector for the heated grips is black and found rear/left under the tank,
the white connector in the relay box is for the factory alarm.

The accessory socket at the coils or handlebar cover can be used for whatever which using 12V up to 10A.

Yeah but do you just use that type of socket coz its the one thats there, or does it have some advantages that you like?

On top of having several USB charge points would it still be a good idea to have one of these BMW accessory sockets? A cig lighter socket might be more useful?

It's more secure than a cig lighter socket.  The male plug clips into a spring at the end and won't dislodge, unlike a cig lighter plug.

Re the USB plug, you can buy a waterproof USB port that clamps on your handlebars for charging/GPSs etc.

We have a male BMW plug to female cig lighter adapter cable for when we need a cig lighter socket.

I've heard those BMW power sockets called all sorts of things, DIN plugs, now Merit plugs (seems to come from the 4WD and camper trailer set, never heard them called that until the last few years).  Easy to get now but years back I had to buy them from John Deere dealers!

BMW, as well as John Deere and others, have been using this type of port, due to its compactness and functionality, for well over thirty years.

www.powerlet.com/products. This link might open up a new world to some.
