I'm Ken, 71, live in Gladstone, Qld, Australia. I've been a Ulysses Club member for over 21 years & I own a 1984 K100rt (Gertie) which I've had for 21 years & done over 246,000 trouble free ks. (Many happy memories of rides on this bike.)
Gertie is now in full retirement covered over in the garage & there she stays as 2 years ago I had a stroke & am now unable to ride. Bugger !
Also an old R90/6 which was restored many years ago & I've owned for 18 years & I've now given to my son as I can't use her.
I just joined this forum out of curiosity & it's great to see so many who still love the K series as much as I.

good to see you here Ken , even if it is just out of curiosity.
I would say that 21 years and almost reaching the 1/4 million mark , puts you in high regard amongst fellow Knuts.
if anything you will enjoy the spirit of this forum , and the light humour . lets hope that your RT doesn't stay under those covers for too long, and that it is able to be passed on to a worthy admirer for continued life on the road.
how did you achieve the many k's on the clock , hoping more pleasure than work.
I'm sure there would be a few others here yearning to see your pics of travels , and hear of any stories relating to maintenance.
thanks for calling in and saying Hi.
Ed.

Welcome Ken.

You have come to the right place for K stuff.
If I had to garage my bike permanently I would still hang out here.

I reckon you should organise a service day.
There has to be a few around you who would like an excuse for a ride.

Head over to your place.
Lift the covers.
Do a service.
Start the bike (test ride anyone) and talk crap.

Sounds theraputic even from 1500km south.

Welcome! This is the right place! I have serious heart problems but the only 100 % safe thing to do seems to be riding! Never any problems while riding...

Hi Ken and welcome. I think having all those K miles under your belt and a K in your garage you qualify as a fully paid up member of the forum. As you can see we come from all over, we all share experiences and no doubt you have plenty to share too. We do get to meet up from time to time so take that offer of a meet up seriously. All that's needed is a pot of tea and some mugs.......

You know a strange thing, a friend of mine had a neighbour who sounds like you, loved his bike and then couldn't ride it. But my friend used to go in and talk bikes and whatever else with him. Anyway years passed and sadly then one day he had passed away, after many hundred gallons of 'tea' had been savoured. A couple of months alter he had a knock on the door and the mans wife was there. She had been going to sell the bike and then decided she wanted to see it around again as she had some happy memories on it too and even more happy memories when she saw how her husband lit up as much as if he had actually been riding the bike. They would have 'tea and tinker' sessions. She handed him the keys of the bike and told him to come and get it whenever he had a moment take her for a ride on it and take it home with him.

If Ks could talk.....

Thanks everybody for the welcome. Even at 71, it's a bugger not being able to ride. I had my bike license & HC license cancelled, & I now have an automatic car license.

Corkboy, the trike idea is, unfortunately, out of the question as I have very limited use of my left leg & I would be unable to change gear, and I only have limited use of my left arm & hand.
Rossko, my son Noel was over yesterday & we used Jumper leads from the car & she burst into life with no trouble at all, she hadn't been run for about a year.
Charlie99, Well mate, my Gertie is flasher than yours !  Razz  My  Gertie is spelt with an "ie",  Rolling Eyes

My wife & I have been around Aust. a few years ago towing a trailer, 20068 ks in 3 months, also done the NT 4 times, & ridden just about every major road in every State, including Tasmania. Gertie has had to work hard at times, but she's never been thrashed & I've never had a mechanical breakdown.

I'd like to put up a couple of photo's, where's the best section to post them ?

Once again, thanks to all for the welcome.

K7oaks,

A Hondamatic SOHC CB750 is the basis of the trike for you, not too man made but its a Honda.......Sorry if that sounds pushy but I never give up when it comes to things like that.

There are a few out there......

Hey Ken, Welcome. We love ride tails especially with photos.

I find it easier to upload my photos to my own web host and then link to them. Your ISP will normally give you space on their web site if you don't have your own. Not sure what others do here.

Prolly dump them in Au/NZ rides but a Ride Tails forum might be worth a look into as well. CF ?

I second Robin's comment. If you can't get out physically you can escape in mind by writing about it and sharing it with the rest of us!

Welcome to the Forum.

Welcome Ken. With 246000 km and 21 years of riding I am sure you will have years of material to add to this forum. The nice thing about this forum is it is not skewed too much in any one direction. It has technical, riding and social. Glad to have you aboard!

Thanks to all for the comments. I will only be online occasionally for the next 5 or 6 months as myself & the better half are in the car & caravan on the way to Alice Springs for the Ulysses Club AGM in May. I'll log on where ever possible.
We're going the slow way, visiting friends & rellies on the way.
Druther be on Gertie ! ! !
I do have plenty of pictures of Gertie in various parts of Australia &  interesting moments, so I may post a few later in the year.
Till then, enjoy the ride, you never know when the time will come when you can't ! Crying or Very sad
