The switch does not turn it off. (On K bikes.) The switch is used for resetting it or from keeping the light from flashing for a while if you're riding with it in fault mode. (In fault mode you still have normal brakes, just without ABS.)
Flashing:
When you start the bike the ABS control unit tests all of its components:
- Both modulators
- Both sensors
- The control unit itself.
The reason that it remains flashing until you start moving is that it cannot test the sensors until it receives a stream of pulses from each sensor as the teeth of the ABS ring rotate past each sensor. This does not happen until the bike is moving. Once you're moving it can complete its initialization process and if everything is working properly then the flashing lights go out. If they keep flashing then one or more components is faulty and your bike does not have ABS, just normal braking.
