Hi all, one of the main tasks with my new bike is to sort out the front and rear suspension. I'm probably going to go down the route of fitting a RAM rear shock and progressive front springs. Before I do all of that though, what are the main symptoms of duff suspension.

My bike doesnt go around corners in a sure footed way. Instead, it leans in, then sits up, then leans in a bit more and I sort of wobble around most corners, rather than hold a steady line. its like riding around a 50p piece...

Is this is a sure sign of knackered shocks and also, how do I tell if the front or rear are at fault?

That sounds more like a tyre that has worn out in the centre and has heaps of tread on the outside, making a so called square tyre and as you lean it wants to drop or stand up as the corner of the tyre goes over the edge.
Bad steering head bearings are the other thing that will cause your symptoms.
A shagged shockie will be more akin to riding a pogo stick

First thing is check the tyres. A dodgy front tyre will do exactly what you are describing, so too will the rear tyre. Even if the tread is good, if the bike sat for some time it will be old and hard. Tyres get hard with age and become nasty. An old front tyre will make the bike feel like its going all over the place and corner horribly.

check tyre first and then as RickG says go for the head bearings.

Ok chaps thanks!

I think the front tyre is pretty good but the rear may be a little square. I'll check them both and find out what the date marks on the tyre tell me.

On my "to do" list is re powder coat of the wheels, so the tyres need to be taken off anyway. Might as well renew them at the same time.
