Hi all, Here are some pics of the project k100 I brought out of a nine year slumber. I'm not sure what this mess up front is,?, does anyone have an idea if this light is even correct? fairing dilemma IMG_0196

Someone's whacked an Airhead R100RS fairing onto your bike. Looks good, but that headlight isn't what would have come with the RS fairing, it'd be round.

Yeah, I figured that from image search, but is the light and bracket even right? Or did they have to move them out to make it fit. It actually does look pretty good though. Might still keep it. And today I find out my 92 kubota has shelled the motor. The K bike budget, just got tighter.

That isn't a K100RS headlight since it doesn't have the curved top portion where the 'parking' light goes. Someone's got one off another sort of bike. Tidy the wiring loom up and give 'er a polish and she might look and function pretty well. I always have enjoyed those RS fairings. They work well.

Pity about the tractor. Good luck with both machines.

Wow, that really looks good and i wouldn't have thought that it would turn out that well! Do the older fairings offer that much more protection than the K?

The RS fairing is just a sweet, streamlined design, but you've gotta be willing to tuck in behind it. At 174cm (5' 9") I am able to. It was a marvel when it came out originally and BMW more or less kept it in production from late-'76 through about '92.

An English company named Ongar did make conversion kits for fitting R fairings on K`s.
But the lowers did go deeper in the rear than those ones in the above pictures.

looks like a 80s ? style yamaha headlamp ...only ones i seem to remember like that, the bracket looks like a s model, bent up to suit the headlamp.

Cool
Interesting looking bike there Gsak and like the lads say it does look good, I suppose if it looks right and is functional it's okay.
As charlie pointed out it looks 80's Yam, my first thought also aka Yam 1100.

Thats a fine looking pic you found there TWB and you are right BM certainly paved the way with factory fairings.

Yeah, the more I look, the more I think I'll try to make it work. And the the guy came through today with the side covers and the mirrors, so I think I will keep it. Now I need to figure out some rough idle and just off idle issues. Going down the road it sounds perfect, but when you slow to a stop and take off again it kinda bumbles and coughs. I did clean the tank and put in a new fuel pump (NAPA ford mustang $80.00), that was smaller in diameter but seems to work fine, still need new filter and a few other fixes before I venture very far. I was told that if you leave K bikes on their side stand that they are known to smoke on start up, is this some sort of valve seal, or rings? It didn't smoke at all upon first start up after sitting 8-9 years, but the next day it did and lasted about a minute or so before it cleaned up. Thanks for all the info gents.

yes the smoke is a issue ...well sometimes .....this feature is characteristic of the ring gaps lining up infrequently and allowing oil to flow somewhat towards the combustion chamber .....aparently later models had the rings "pinned " so this would not happen .

but hey.. i just call it ....my bike "marking out its territory".... giggle
dont worry about it

do the spark plugs and leads fixes ....and check for leaks around the air intakes / throttle body rubbers ( lots of threads here )

its a keeper !!!

Your idle/off idle stumble is def gonna be air/vac leak at the intake boots. Test by having it idling and spraying some carb cleaner at each boot in succession. If the revs increase, there is your vac leak. Fairly common problem. TWB did his this year, I've replaced/resealed too many times this year (finally sorted), and OG is taking a preventative approach and replacing as he restores. Lots of info here on how to change them out.
