...that's what my K100RT from '86 was/is. I bought it end of last year here in Switzerland. It had just received it's "MFK" making it legal to move it on Switzerland's motorways for the next 2 years. The Odometer read 43k. What could be wrong? I bought it unseen and unridden for a good price.

When I picked it up most seemed fine. Engine sounds good and very willing to accept a twist of the wrist. It was planned to be "cleaned out": "Fighting naked at the café" if one wishes to give it a theme. This means: Tail chop, fairings off, new speedometer, headlights, turn signals, tail light, Arduino fancies, rear end & seat. Paint and color to be done next winter. So far, the most major find was a corroded fuel tank - not a biggy. Those 43k - well... I don't think they match up .

I've stripped the K-at down in the past 2 months and the biggest issue was developing a road legal solution for a tail chop - while keeping the pillion option. Shortly after the new year I've found a solution that would satisfy the surveyor (who in turn will provide the expertise for the Zurich road department). Happy, I am. Moving into production now.
Until I've got those bits, I'll be doing a "soft overhaul": Fluids, filters, water pump, clutch lever, etc. Hopefully I can push anything more worrisome into next winter's season.

Me? I've ridden bikes since 16 and always announced that there will be a BMW coming my way when I'm 30. Well, it took 12 more years that I finally got one. Between that I had done a fair amount of Enduro racing KTM's and a bit of Vespa tinkering for road use.

I must say that -at first, reading your title "K-at in a bag"- I had some consern that this might be the first story about a K that had disappointed someone (you..) Fortunately, within two more lines, all cleared up and the rime 'twist of the wrist' made me smile, just like you I guess ?!
Needless to say that Ghost who rides forfilled wish for pictures is a trigger; keep them coming, Georg ?

Well... as a former toolmaker and at heart - that would be sad.
As a computer scientist... this is sort of neat.

Back to reality... I've actually though of making the glass fiber seat by designing it in Blender (3D tool) and getting a printout to use as the mold. In the past, I have used services such as Sculpteo and Shapeways. However, the pricing for such a fairly large (even as a hollow volume) object is still too steep - and the quality of the print is not sufficient.

Hi Georg, great start to a BMW relationship, Bend Metal wildly and improve the breed. Mines stock, may tweek it one day, doubt it. Fantastic ride yesterday over Rimataka (5 wars mountains) mountain road to Wairarapa. Loved Switzerland when on tour 18 months ago. Lets get an international rally going someday. K bikes only.
