As you may have read, I picked up a 94 K1100LT ex cop bike and it has a pre 86 arse end on it and nothing back there is quite right. 

I'm looking for a newer rear cowl but will I need another seat. This one does not fit well at all and appears to have a poorly fitted cover over who knows what. How do I tell if this seat is also pre 86? The bar that should go across the bike under the seat where the rear hinge fits is also missing.

I do see a near new post 86 comfort seat (new old stock) ex USA and am wondering if I should jump on it while it's going. About $300 delivered.

I got it now. It is an early seat, the later seats are not curved at the back like this one.
They are more a cut off look, angular lines.

Hi Robin, FYI I have an 86 ish seat and tail surplus to requirements. If interested pm your email and I'll send pics.
Seat has been recovered/shaped looks ok but different look to stock, tail is in good nick with hardware but I want 
to keep the indicators.

I also have the bar across the seat you require Robin. It is off the pre-86 seat but I am sure they are both comparable?
