If so, how can we help?

Sadly I lost my house in Winmalee, Gladly I sold it 13 years ago to get away from the danger.RT 1 / Life 250.
I still have kids up there in Warrimoo, today will be the tester for them.

Now I am in the Southern Highlands, surrounded by smoke again. Think someone is trying to get me used to fire and brimstone.

It's been on and off for us.  Thurs night /Friday AM the fire was moving towards us in Mt Riverview.
 Then the wind started pushing it west.  Yesterday an ACT fire crew did a major backburn to give Mt Riv a buffer, scared a lot of the neighbours as the flames weren't that far away.  This morning everything is just smoky, we can hear them still working in the gully but no fire apparent.  Temps are getting hotter again tomorrow though.  I have to go to work, Marie will stay and work from home in case we have to get the mutts to safety.  We've been packed and ready to go since Thursday night.

Al we hear is choppers and chainsaws.

Had to cancel 2 rides because of this!

I remember when I lived off and on in Australia, friends in fire zones told me that it is essential to equip the gutters if you have them with plugs so you can fill them up with water otherwise embers roll down the roof set light to any stuff in the bottom and the flame gets under the tin and away goes the house.

Another mate who was a mechanical engineer fitted the outside of his house with external drenchers run off a diesel pump using the pool water after he lost his previous house to a bushfire. His neighbours thought he was mad till 14 years later another bad fire roared through and his house was the only one in the street undamaged whilst the rest were burned to the ground.

Although we are not in danger, at this stage, our atmosphere is choked with the smoke from the fires in the Blue Mountains....nature is strange. We are 420 kms from Sydney!

Thinking of all those helpful volunteers , keeping us safe.

still a lot of small fires around in the Hunter region . many stories to be told.

the RFS ( Rural Fire Services ) working tirelessly in many areas to keep fires at bay . theres been high winds hampering efforts during this past week.


the view over Denman this morning, as we headed for home after the Pink Ribbon ride.
we are 2 hours from the source of the fires , which are on the coastal region of Newcastle.
