Nice, neat job. The only thing I'd have done differently is to use copper nuts on the header studs (much easier to deal with later).

Best thing to use is all Titanium nuts and bolts. I used to get hold of loads from the Tornado aircraft in my last job and they are never affected by heat or corrosion.

I wish that you'd owned this K1100 at some stage then. Despite plenty of heat and soaking the second nut I've tried has just sheared the stud.bikerboy wrote:Best thing to use is all Titanium nuts and bolts. Good pics especially the last one, don't see that view normally.
Correct me if i'm wrong but brass was the NUT of choice ?
My old 1952 International truck, no history, was the GO!
Fine thread, steel nuts. I am the biggest Slammer of American tech, bar none, call me a convert!
IF, IF, you want the best, custom your exh studs, fine thread for the pipes, with neverseize etc.
never be a problem again IMHO.

Yes Bikerboy, I still have the screw you gave me last summer..... Light, strong and expensivebikerboy wrote:"Nice, neat job. The only thing I'd have done differently is to use copper nuts on the header studs (much easier to deal with later)."

As Ghost who rides stated, neverseez is the best and cheaper treatment that you can give to you exhaust nuts and studs. I used it in a lot in marine environment where salty water and heat are corroding any screws.

The Nickel anti seize is there product
Protects metal parts from seizing and galling at temperatures of to 2400°F (1316°C). Copper-free, use under conditions of extreme pressure and temperature and with stainless steel, titanium and nickel alloys.
Or a copper slip with similar temp properties will help

I used a wire brush on the headers and diesel and a toothbrush to clean the rest before re-installment.
