Anyone enlighten me on the rubber washers that go on the valve cover and crank case cover bolts. The ones my BMW dealer got me don't seem to be correct. Those bolts have a shoulder on them and it would seem to me that the washer would cover that area but it doesn't. And the bolts tighten then stop. Don't want to get this together and it leaks. Any input would be appreciated.

The bolts tighten against a shoulder so that they cant be pulled down so hard that the gasket gets squashed and destroyed and leaks.

Thanks Inge for the pics. I got the right ones.
Thanks Rick for esplanin the bolt, I just thought the rubber washers were to shallow and not taking up the gap. Put the tank back on and tried to start it...ran 10 secs then died. Did it 3 times same thing...started thinkin the worst...fuel pump gone bad...turned the shop radio off and tried it again to listen for the pump...she whined on the shut down... open up the tank and shined my flash light in...OMG...NO GAS!!! ...2 gallons of British Petrolium Premium and she fired right up...imagine that!! No leaks on the valve cover or crank cover (new gaskets and rubbers all around). Tomorrow evening I'll mount the cluster and fairing, check the lights then nothin left but to pack my pannier and be ready to head to New England 3 a.m. Thursday. Hope to make it to Collinsville, Ct. by 1 p.m.  621 miles door to door. Again my thanks to ya'll for answering all my question and posting such great and useful information on here. Can't wait to try the K with the TPS disconnected!

See ya out on the road

one thing with those little rubber gaskets, no more than 5 ft lbs of torque to tighten.
If they get crushed down, they will leak
