Hi all,

After many years I have gotten my hands back on my old 1991 K100RS. I last saw her in 2008 and she is still in brilliant condition. I am looking forward to getting to know her again.
Coincidentally, I have also gotten my hands on a 1985 K100Rs which is rather cosmetically and mechanically challenged. It is all there, but has spent the last couple of years under a carport. Given the extremes we get in weather in Canberra (-5 to 35 C) the restoration will keep me off the streets for a while.
The one thing that I did notice about the bike was the wafer thin rear disk... I wonder what else lies in wait for me under the thick patina of dust and grime !

Welcome to the Forum.  I am amazed at how many K Bikes are in Aus. Does anyone know in which country around the world the largest number of K's were sold ?

It certainly would not have been Australia but what tends to happen here is that because the BMWs were so much more expensive than other bikes and that they are a long lived bike, especially the Ks, we tend to look after them and keep them longer so there are a lot more percentage wise survive to old age than US and Europe.

And they dont rot here due to road salt etc.

That gives you a little idea of the dirt and grime that covers the 'project bike' from wheel to wheel.

The cross pieces in the pic are part of a rack with a Gearsack bag fitted. It appears to be made for the bike with all the right angles, etc but I might go back to the standard parcel rack thingy.

Looks like the dust has settled by now, no need to wait any longer.

Hi there down in Canberra, welcome. I recently joined also and the welcome was great. Already had a chance to meet up with one of the inmates and I'm sure there are good times ahead.

Welcome neighbour, that dust is a protective coating, just leave it till you ride in the wet.
Hope to catch up sometime.
