Hi all. Currently rebuilding my 84 k100rs as a slightly stripped down/custom version. My wheel related question is... currently the wheels are standard factory grey, I want to keep them this colour, in fact the front came up like new when I cleaned it. The rear on the other hand will need a shot of paint to bring it back to its best. Anyone know any off the shelf rattle cans that match colour wise? Thanks in advance shane

Few of us in cork so give me a PM some time and I can swap phone numbers.

I think maybe give a thought to doing the two wheels at the same time. That way you might find it cheaper to buy some commonly available but close match at a bargain price, like Halfords or similar. I have 84RT and the wheels look a very different colour from the 92LT, both are Y spoke, on closer inspection the rim profiles are slightly different. Even if you get an original colour code it may not be right as it's possible you don't have the original wheels.

Might be a better idea alright. I know hamerite (spelling! ) do a silver that was a close match to the r1150gs fork legs, might not be too off for k wheels? Pm sent also. Thanks.

What you may want to do is select a paint type that is compatible with 2-part clear coating. That way, you can take the wheel to a paint shop and get them to cover in a 2K water-based clear. Your careful work could be destroyed if you get brake fluid spilt on the touched up areas, but 2K clear is impervious to brake fluid. For very little money, most paint shops will include your wheel in a run if they are spraying clear on another job ; it's money well spent.

A big +1!

I have done this with touch ups on my RT. I do the base coat and then take it to the local collision shop where they shoot the clear when they are doing a bigger job. Had the right side lower for the fairing done recently. Cost me $20. I would figure a wheel might be a little more, but not much, because of the complexity. Still would be worth it for the professional quality finish. Look for a place that works with the classic car guys. They are usually more inclined to do small jobs.

Just so happens I'm getting tank and front muddy painted. So that could work out nicely. good suggestion.
