Hi every body,

I've got a ex Police 1992 K1100LT what has not run for the past six year. Before that I used it every day for work all year round.

The reason that I have joined this forum is that I now have the garage facilities to work on it t o put it back on the road.

Other than meeting new and interesting members and learning from their experience and experiences, I'm looking for advice on;

1.The approach I need to take before I even attempt to turn the engine over
2. What checks should be carried out knowing it has stood for so long
3. Again, with it being stood for so long should be replaced as a matter of course

This is my first bike rebuild so am looking for all the help I can get. I'm an electronics engineer by trade and quite handy with a set of spanners.

Looking forward talking to you all.

Cheers - Frank

Hi Ya there a big welcome from the antipodies.
If you go to the portal page and have a look through the page called "you just bought a K100 so what now" it will give you a good guide as to what may need attention. I realize yours is a K1100 but they are similar enough for it to be relevant.

Welcome to the site.
Do go check out what to do. Any problems pop them up and someone will have the answers.
Hopefully the K was kept under cover and is in reasonable condition. While there are a few fiddly things I think you will find there is plenty you don't have to do. It seems a common thing to find Ks that have been off road for years but they seem to come back to life quite well.

Welcome!
Please be sure to get all of the old fuel out of the tank & fuel lines before even starting to try.
Experience has taught me that sometimes users leave just a couple of ounces of spoiled fuel in the system somewhere and when they put fresh gas in, it spoils the whole load. A small amount of bad gas may run fine when warmed up but it absolutely won't start cold.
Heed the warning before you replace a gazillion dollars worth of "guess" parts.
Again, welcome......Regards, ibjman....

Thanks for the warm welcome guys and the great advice already. Looks like I've found the right site to help me.

Fortunately it had been under cover for most of that time at a mates garage. As soon as I get it over to mine once I've finished the floor which is going to be end of August I'll post a picture.

Chomping at the bit to start now, but having just moved house, I've been told there are other jobs I have to do first..... bummer Surprised(

Will be in touch soon guys, but in the mean time will start on the research

Cheers

Welcome aboard Frank - pretty much anything you need to help you rebuild the K1100 will be found here somewhere by using the "search" facility.  If not, just post up your question and I am confident that one of the "K" geniuses will be along to point you in the right direction before too long Wink
