Welcome the k1100 is a serious machine and you'll have. Some serious roads for it in the countryside there. Good to have you along and don't be afraid to post some ride reports from France.

Welcome Bill,

Living in France at Grand-Madieu? Is that near Angouleme?
If yes, I can give you a good idea for a Sunday ride.
Why don't you meet Bikerboy In Perigueux? He's also from England and he and his wife are riding BMWs.
They have a B&B near Perigueux.
I am planning to stop there for a night around the end of June or beginning of July.
We could plan a meeting, but .... I will be driving a cage.

Cheers,

CF

Hi All,
Thanks for the welcome, CF you are correct Angouleme is only 40km from here and Perigueux 125km. 88KE you are right the roads round here are excellent, perfect for biking with very little traffic. My K100 was written off in an accident involving a car that did not stop at a stop line. I purchased my K1100 with the proceeds of the insurance payout for the bike, the injury claim is ongoing. The K100 had been sitting in a basement for 15 years and had only 2 owners from new, and was my first BMW. Hope you like the photos,
Bill.

Hi Bill and welcome too.

Funny, my K is written off too. From behind and its ongoing with the dreaded Aviva. Funny thing is I may yet end up with a K1100 and I also love that part of France. We meet up regularly enough over here too, met 88KE less than 2 weeks ago...we have some great members.

You now have the makings of a French group, there are more in the area because I have seen them...down Bordeaux Nantes etc.

Hi, 92KK,
The driver of the car addmitted liability straight away and the insurance paid out for the bike 4 weeks to the day of the accident, they also coughed up for a new helmet and jacket and for the registration fee for the 1100 Laughing I really liked my k100 but the K 1100 is a completly diferent ball game, goes like the clapper's so much faster than the old bike which I found quite suprising, stops well without the squeeling from the front brake and dosn't feel as top heavy as the K100 did . The k100 was a 1987 RT and the PO had owned it since 1989, 34000 geniune miles he moved to France and parked it in his basement, to busy working and building his dream home to ride it, I owned it 2 years before it died but at least it was ridden for those two years.
CF the last week in June we are on holiday on the K on the med side of the Spanish border but will be heading north again on 29/07 perhaps you will still be around , it would be nice to meet you.
If there is anyone traveling south through the Charente, June 21 and would like to tag along for the ride get in touch, final destination Port-Vendres
regards,
Bill.
