Use a small screwdriver to remove the wire clip holding the connector. The same type of connector is found for the throttle switch as well as the water temperature sensor.

Ok, the new motor runs, starts right up, but won't hold a steady rpm , say I try to hold at 2000 rpm , it kind of surges around , but it runs much cooler than the original and sounds better to, so I'm getting close , still some small pops, could it bee the plug wires? I put new injectors and plugs , new gas , and the fuel filter is clear.
Thanks
Brian

Is that pops when decelerating? if yes, check the idle switch at the end of ramp.
When you twist the throttle, you should ear a click. When you release it you should ear the same "click"
Try without the engine running otherwise you won't ear this micro switch.

The pops are kind off random, open and close on throttle. I do hear clicks when I open and close throttle , but they happen almost instantly when you twist the grip, should they be on a more open throttle/ I also turned the motor over with the starter , and the plugs out, to clear the oil in the cylinders, then I read in the book that you can damage the electrical system , what could I have damaged?

If you start without the spark plugs connected and well grounded you can damage the coils. Every revolution they generate a high voltage to allow the plugs to spark and with no grounding of the spark plugs the voltage can't go anywhere and therefore could damage the ignition system. At least that's the theory.

HI, I am following your thread on your starting problems, and saw that you tested your coils , I have a meter , how do I test them, I am going to test the fuel pump today. I looked at the plug wires in the dark last night and didn't see any spark ,but that is not totally conclusive, so on I go.
Thanks
Brian

Hi, tested the fuel pump 70# so I took it for a ride , after about a mile things smoothed out to a very nice runner. After letting it sit for a few hours, it runs rough again then warms up nice any thoughts.I found some one who can use a multi-meter so he could test things per Berts chart. When it runs it is SWEET.

Thanks
Brian

From what you said, it seems to be temperature related. I would chek the water temperature sensor and the air temperature sensor in the airflow meter.
It could also come from a defective EFI computer but I have my doubts.
The variation of the resistance of the air temperature is so minimal, that a corroded connection may affect it.

Hi, Before I took off the air box I rigged up a t to a pressure gauge and started the bike , when running the #s were about 50 - 60 # so that could make it run way to rich, as described in another post on the site , so I need a new regulator?

Thanks
Brian

The fuel pump pressure should be 65Psi but the regulator drops it to 36Psi. If you did the test by installing a te in line with the fuel supply, Yes, the regulator has a problem. I would guess that you may just have a problem with the hose coming from the intake manifold of cylinder #4 to the bottom of the fuel pressure regulator. Check this first, then report your find.

Bert

Hi,checked out fuel presssure. regulator and was good , so I finely took Berts advice, and cleaned all connections .... I can't pull my finger off the starter fast enough, before she starts , I seem to have a few leaks in the intake manafolds to work on,but I am gaining.

Thanks
Brian

Ok, I just came in from the carb. cleaner spray test on the throttle bodies, and the 2nd from the front changes the motor speed when sprayed at the base. Should I have used some sealant when I switched them? These are the bodies from the first motor .

Thanks
Brian
