Hello to all forum members!

I have been working on this bike for about 4 months. Here it is!

Custom parts include:

Custom front disc spacers
Custom license plate mount
Custom ducati seat
Custom mirrors
Custom tail (spikes)
Custom headlight
Custom LED tail light
K1100 rear wheel, Ninja 636 front wheel with no modifications
Custom front fender, SRAD derived
Custom indicators

This is a 1991 K100RS with 1986 K100 engine. I have done all of the conversion by myself. Enjoy!

Where is the 'before' photo Mate?  That's the one I like looking at!

Just personal preference.

Not much left of the -91.....it's more than just the engine from the -86.

Yes it's more or less 91 frame with 86 engine and new wheels on it.

Inge K. is spot on! Next thing coming up - custom manufactured aluminium pod with a temp gauge which I will combine to show engine temp and fuel level. I don't know where the temp sensor wire is yet. Got the fuel level, it works perfect.

It's a popular mod among Kafè builders in here to change out the instruments.

I'm quite sure that lot of them would like to know the name of the maker of
the instrument you have used, as the level sensor in our bikes working in the
opposite direction regarding the resistance compared to most other sensors
which is used for this.

Musclebiker wrote: I don't know where the temp sensor wire is yet.
The sensor for the additional OEM temp gauge is mounted in the hole for the
coolant drain plug at the water/oil pump...the sensor must match your instrument.

Hi MuscleBiker and welcome.
I'm new to this form as well and will be doing a modest cafe modification in the near future.
Could you post a close up of your handlebars. I'm trying to work out what will be best. I installed clip-on on my old Ducati years ago but I didn't want to go that far with my K. Maybe straight or slightly dropped.
Cheers

Welcome MuscleBiker.

Question 4U: So, if it's a "cafe" bike, where are the cup holders?  (o)

Hi guys, a little winter update on my K:

Obtained a KTM digital speedo, intending to remove the K100 instrument cluster altogether.

This is the 1st ride-out of 2015 bike looks the same right now but I installed a YZF Thundercat rear shock. Will post pictures.

It says "Are you ready for the winter?" - in case you're wondering Smile

G'day mate, bike looks great! I am particularly interested in how you've mounted the rear number plate, but can't quite see in the photos. Any chance of another shot?

Custom fabricated license plate mount. I took the idea from Ducati Diavel - really like that look. The angle is 120 degrees, I can give you all the measurements if you want, but it's always better to improvise Very Happy

These pictures are before I cut the frame even shorter and re-registered the bike.

Lovely work with your K100 and a good find with the front wheel fitting up easily with the same axle dia. I am interested why you are choosing the Thundercat shockie for the rear, does it deliver greater variance for set up?

Hi, several reasons
- The shock is stiffer - reduced comfort but better stability.
- It has various adjustment options.
- You can get a good condition one for a reasonable price.
- It is slightly longer than a stock K100 shock, by about 0.5mm, seems little but this translates to 2-4cm at the end of the tail, and mine is shortened. If you have a "cut" frame and a brace bar like mine, it is very likely that your tyre will rub the brace on potholes or with your wife behind, with a stock shock absorber.

The downsides: no matter how much you adjust it, the shock is really stiffer than the stock one. I had a TL1000R before this so it doesn't bother me. The TL really rides like s**t!
Currently I have mounted the YZF shock upside-down, this should be a temporary solution until I find a way to put it right. Also there is a nitrogen cartridge, apparently non-refillable. I removed that Very Happy But it should be there really...

Good stuff musclebiker, I can see an advantage to that 40mm increase, and I expect just by travelling down to your local spring maker you can change the spring to something softer, I would hope the damping allows for a softer spring, I'd expect less travel on the shock than the stock one, perhaps giving you better cornering clearance?

I did ride it yesterday, it's not unbearable but it's much harder. It's more stable when leaning in the corners.New Member, may I introduce myself and my Cafe Racer "The Monolith" Shock_10

Its good to know one will fit, especially if I weigh more than the average biker.
