When cranking the engine to start, the starter turns the engine for what seems like 1 or 2 revolutions, then seems to stick for a second, then cranks again and the K75 starts. This is not a case of the bike not starting, but I am wondering if I need to deal with the symptom before a failure of some sort? I have read that cleaning up the starter motor is a good idea. Any other pointers? Battery is a good, and well charged, Oddessy PC680.
Thanks.

I'd probably get the battery tested under load to see how much "oomph" it has.

When was the last time that the starter motor cleaned/brushes checked?

In my opinion...check battery as described above and clean the starter as a minimum.

Do that and see how you go.

Questions? Ask!

Starter is quite easy to do, just two allen screws and a [10mm?] nut for the wire. Its easy enough to take apart, two long screws, just put some marks on the casing ends before you take it apart to help align them after.

You will be taking the battery out of the way anyway so it is worth checking it out.

Check the gearbox end of the negative lead, might be corroded.

whilst you have the starter out, file off the mounting points to renew the contact to earth-engine (as it draws lots of amps ) that junction can corrode up

you might have to do both the area around the bolt heads and the contact area to the engine proper or as suggested in some tech updates run another earth cable to one of the mounting bolts (thick stuff)

but from the sound of it ..you may have to relinish the armature comutator, you may have a couple of segments in the comutator that are a little corroded ?

as avenger suggested clean the earth mounting point as well

measure the brush lengths ...see if they moove freely etc inspect the brush earth mounting plate for signs of corrosion around the mounting locations (where it clamps up to the starter) . the brush kit is not expensive (plate and brushes)...and if i was pulling it down i would replace them in any case .
