Welcome mate. A bargain! The good news is all parts to fix her up are available Very Happy. Try Motorworks, Motobins and James Sherlock plus Ebay breakers are pretty good for spares.

When you get a few more posts under your belt photos are always good to see - there is an insatiable appetite for photos of K bikes here!

I see your tech query re idel and am sure someone will be along to help out soon; there's a lot of knowledegable guys here happy to advise.

Enjoy the bike, they can be addicitive

Cheers
Dave

Welcome to the group. I bought a 1985 K100RT a few months back and started to refresh the bike:) This group has been invaluable in helping to answer questions and provide advice.

Yep, welcome but a word of warning, K's are addictive. The Aussies call it KPox.

Welcome to the Forum. You will find it very very helpful, great for advice, help tips etc.

What it doesnt say is there is a great fun side too, an opportunity to meet up with some fellow riders from time to time, exchange stories etc. KPox in Australia, we have the Irish Eccentrics and there are more. A lot of guys too have spare parts hanging around and generally can be acquired for reasonable cost and postage.

The bikes are fairly modular meaning parts can be swapped easily and a post up here with any queries will bring lots of good advice.

You may or may not have the resources to tackle engine work but the good news is engines generally are very very reliable and long lasting. Almost all of the rest of any items can be done at home in a shed or garden with fairly minimal facilities and tools.

A word of advice before you go at anything: a lot of sensors and computers, means risk of electrical damage. Always disconnect battery both terminals before going at them, never disconnect anything with engine running, never use self powered electrical testers on the ingition unit, abs unit or injection unit. This is a general piece of advice, members will point you in the right direction. There is a wealth of technical stuff but what is very useful is the Clymer manual and if you havent got one its worth getting one on eBay and exploring it.

Before you go firing it up get some advice on the fuel pump/petrol filter etc. The ethanol in the petrol, not around when they were originally built, damages the seals and rubbers inside the tank if left sitting. Its not a costly item, fuel pumps are cheap too, so are filters.

K Bikes are addictive and great on the road. Enjoy it.

And never ever use a high power washer
get your wife to scrub it down ( Oh wait, that's an oximoron).
Welcome anyway, expect the unexpected and carry the tools to fix it. ( you won't need them anyway).
