Greetings from Idaho, the land of the spud. I don't have anything to do with growing potatoes but it seems everyone I meet thinks I do.

Anyways getting back to the more important things in life (BMWs). I'm the owner of a 2010 R1200R which is my main bike of choice. However, I recently purchased a 1995 K75 for my wife who wants to learn how to ride and follow me on my touring adventures (she thinks I just ride down to Vegas and spend a week in self-indulgent debaucheries). So with that in mind I needed to learn all about K bikes, of course I turned to the Internet, the virtual land of all information and truth. I mean it has to be true cause its on the internet, right?

So after exhaustive searching through various BMW forums and reading many semi-coherent posts and I found a reference to this wonderful site. And after reading many highly informative diatribes, I decided (against my better judgement), to join in the fun and educate myself about the bike that will probably consume most of my time in the coming year, or at least until I can get my wife to start doing the maintenance herself.

Oh dear.
You do know that you'll end up buying a K for yourself, don't you.
A nice late model 16v RS perhaps? Purely as an interest, of course. Twisted Evil

Welcome, CSchmidt. It's a good place to hang out, this forum, and take or leave the opinions of members, most of whom are passionate about their choice of riding beast. Having had a good squiz around the interweb, prior to joining this forum while looking for info about K bikes, I too decided this one was worth it for the technical aspect and the humour. If you're a regular you'll see that most are just taking the piss (Non-American English for having a laugh, German speakers might call it schadenfreude) when it comes to taking ourselves too seriously.

For those of you who aren't aware, on the number plates in Idaho the saying is "Famous Potatoes" and we can indirectly thank, or maybe not, Mr J R Simplot who grew a lotta spuds in OZ too. I reckon the average OZ is rapidly catching up to the average American in excess spud intake.

The K75 is one of the best K bikes for its smoothness. I hope she likes it.

My wife is 6 feet tall with a 35 inch inseam, so no height problems. Although it has the high handlebars which I find atrocious, need to find some lower and a bit wider for leverage.

Welcome Cschmidt, from the supposed Spud capital of S.E Australia. We have the large potato gracing our main road and no farmers left to grow them.
These bikes grow on you, they always feel a bit odd at first, but do a few miles and the Alien will be inserted into your chest.
Enjoy.
RT (long live Sigourney).
