Hi Chuck, Hi from South Africa 177912
Have you discovered the folding lifting handle just below the left hand side cover yet?
Cheers,
Paul.

Left hand on bars, Right hand on folding handle under seat, Right foot on centre stand lever (make sure both stand feet are on the deck). .....press down hard with foot whilst pulling up with handle, grunt for effect!

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the Knuthouse. An 84 K, now that brings back memoiries ( I had when I was at Uni) Hint, If you don't need it remove the Top Box, it will handle a bit better.

Welcome Chuck.
Nice looking bike.
Have a lot of fun with it.
Sounds like you are. Cool
Very rewarding vehicles to own.
That's a good thing.
....and be careful about when using the side stand...to put foot behind and eyeball that the bike rocks back a little...settling.
...And on the center stand...make sure that you practice it somewhere where none can see ya.
That way you don't turn it over on the right side in a very public gas getting place with lots of hot chicks watching. (I've done this).

...and suggest a method of fueling.
Don't know if this will work for you.
I pull up to the fuel pump.
Put down the sidestand....Go in and pay.
Come back out, take nozzle out, stand bike upright (to get more gas in), fuel, put it back on sidestand, (watching like a hawk that the side stand is set and nothing bad is going to happen) Smile..rather than messing around with center stand at that time.
FWIW

Welcome too Charles. 25 and a K bike is good.

You will never part with it. Its is a great mile muncher. We had a weekend trip and mine covered 880 miles between Friday luncytime and Sunday night and I felt fresh after it.

This site is great for technical help, fun, humour and more. We do even sometimes meet up with great results.

The advice about the sidestand/prop stand take very seriously so that it becomes a habit. When you lower the stand keep your eye on it and make sure it bites the ground, keep your foot behind it and pull the bike back a little as you get off to make sure its doing its job.

I am only 5' 8", at gas station I go so the pump is on the right. I put bike on main stand but if you are close enough to the pump island the height of the kerb is good support for the right foot so you dont let it fall over. We all eventually find what suits us best. I could change my seat for a lower one but its too comfortable.

All in I have let the bike fall over 3 times since I got it [no damage], all while manouvering it out of tight spaces so be careful how and where you park! Never facing downhill on sidestand either.....if you can help it.

I took mine for a run without the top box, what a difference it makes, then took panniers off and wow, so if you dont need them, at least take off top box and feel the difference.

My son [24] always said mine was a bit sort of old fashioned until he sat up on it. Recently he changed his insurance for one that allows him ride any bike......I think he has designs.....

Enjoy it!!.

Hi Charles, welcome. My question is: 25 and a K100!!??... WTF, I expect a Jap sports bike, my choice would be a Hayabusa SmileSmile

Just kidding, we welcome younger blood here. Last time I looked the average age was around 50 SmileSmile

I am sure that by now you would have found a mix of people here, with many of us migrated from the Euro dominated K100 forum. I for one have found the people here to be a bunch of fun guys that don't take them selves at all seriously, but at the same time, they will dispense pearls of wisdom I take seriously and value.

Have a good time and I hope that we can be of assistance.
