Hi All,

new member from Country Australia. All I know about BMW Bikes I have learnt in the last 10days. I was helping a friend search the internet for a seat for his GSSuzuki and I cam e across several versions that had been converted to Cafe Racers.

I have always loved Cafe Racers, but have been too big to look proportional on a Thruxton or the like. Thats when I stumbles across a K100 converted to a Cafe Racer and loved the look. Started to lookm at prices for K00 Bikes and was amazed to find how affordable they are .

So up shot is I now own a 87 BMW K100RS in great nick. I plan to ride and enjoy the bike while I gather some parts prior to placing in the shed and re-birthing into a Cafe.

My existing bike is a 2007 FLSTN Harley Davidson. So there you have it.
By quickly scanning the site I am impressed at the amount of knowledge and data available. look forward to spending many hrs cruising the site and absorbing knowledge.

Keg, as long as you're enjoying your ride , any thing will do. The K just makes it a bit more enjoyable.
but between you and me , all these other K nutters are just glad that you finally came to the fold.
you will certainly find an enormous support group here for tech info and laughs.
I'm sure you'll enjoy your time here.

nice find by the way!! good clean example of an RS, shame to remould it, any issues as yet.?

Has someone changed the bars, they look like RT's and no end weights?

Grover K,
I should explain that the bike is not in my hands just yet. I have outlayed a deposit to hold it while the seller awaits paperwork to allow rego. Have not even seen the bike in person, but seller seems genuine and has been restoring the bike for some years.
He stated that he has indeed placed RT Bars on it, and informs me that the bike is pristine with still factory brake pads and discs and footpeg rubbers etc.

The bike has been off the road for approx 8 years and speedo shows 21xxx Km.

Should have the bike in the next 2 weeks. As soon as paper work arrives I just have to arrange transport from Sydney to Country S.A. Approx 2900km.

Cant wait, reckon after a couple of rides I may be reluctant to strip down and transform, they look a bit more comfortable than the Harley for a road trip.

the seating comfort is totally different when you jump on a K,not as much emphasis with jarring on your lower back , as you are able to bear road impact through your lower legs. I occasionally take my wife's Boulie for a run, and much prefer the K riding position.
She in turn takes my LT to work ,but still prefers the group social trips on her boulie, she was in the ARR cruiser mag -Tripper seat comp.

You should find the low Km's should wear off soon enough ,as you start to enjoy the ride even more.

Welcome Keg
that's a nice looking K, hope the purchase goes well.
They are a comfortable forgiving bike, and you can work on them.
Nice looking Harley too, so clean.

Yes, mid-height bars are much more comfortable on long rides--great for sport-touring.

BTW, my friends tell me that Harley is jewelry that wears you! (pun intended)
