Just briefly to introduce myself as a new member of the Forum. Started on bikes with a Honda C90 in 1968, I live in Southern Scotland and have had my K100RT since 1985, when I bought it new with the idea that it might last me - or at least my motorcycling life - out. 143,000 miles later it's still going, albeit I've never been too keen on polishing so it looks more uncared for than it actually is. Anyway I like it a lot, even though it's not been entirely without problems (eg the rivets on the countershaft let go at around 60k miles) but, basically, it is an everyday workhorse which does what I want, when I want it, and is easy enough to maintain; which is exactly what I was hoping for when I bought it.
Recently there have been a few obscure faults (like working out that worn starter motor brushes can cause the lights go out and the indicators to operate simultaneously) which it's taken a while to track down and look mostly like the effects of old age, so evidently it's going to take more effort to keep things running from here on in, but I'm not quite ready to give two wheels up yet so we'll see.
