Just briefly to introduce myself as a new member of the Forum. Started on bikes with a Honda C90 in 1968, I live in Southern Scotland and have had my K100RT since 1985, when I bought it new with the idea that it might last me - or at least my motorcycling life - out. 143,000 miles later it's still going, albeit I've never been too keen on polishing so it looks more uncared for than it actually is. Anyway I like it a lot, even though it's not been entirely without problems (eg the rivets on the countershaft let go at around 60k miles) but, basically, it is an everyday workhorse which does what I want, when I want it, and is easy enough to maintain; which is exactly what I was hoping for when I bought it.
Recently there have been a few obscure faults (like working out that worn starter motor brushes can cause the lights go out and the indicators to operate simultaneously) which it's taken a while to track down and look mostly like the effects of old age, so evidently it's going to take more effort to keep things running from here on in, but I'm not quite ready to give two wheels up yet so we'll see.

Welcome Simon, with that sort of mileage I'm sure there are a few items to be serviced/overhauled on the bike but 1.) they are all very affordable to do and
2) when done it will go for another 143,000 miles cheers

That's the beauty of the K engineering.

another big welcome Simon, good to hear you kept it all these years, it's surprising how many of us reach a later stage in our lives, look back and reminisce of the past.
For most of us , due to circumstances through our lives there are regrets of actions taken, but in your case you kept the old girl and get to continue on ,
so best of luck with the re-birth of your RT.We all look forward to assisting with info and seeing the end results.

Clans well , as we all have dual heritage, mine is Clan Colquloun , und auch herr Bezer ( meaning " fine collector", and suitably so, the K falls into such a description)
